VR6collector 0 Posted October 26, 2012 Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 I need help trying to find a cure to a very lumpy idle issue on my 1995 Corrado VR6...It's very lumpy from cold (and warm) right up to about 2500 - 3000 rpm - then it seems to clear and revs clean and hard like a VR6 should. Having owned a couple of other VR's before I know how smooth they can idle so I know something is not quite right.I've taken it to my local garage who have changed the sparks and HT leads but this has made no difference whatsoever. There are no overheating / oil or water loss / smoke from exhaust issues so I don't think it's a head gasket although the garage have suggested doing a cylinder leak test to rule that out too.I've read some of the other related threads over on the Corrado Forum and I have also tried spraying a fine mist of water across the coil pack with no obvious signs of arcing so the coil pack seems to be OK and not cracked.The garage have also tested the crankshaft sensor and also the MAF. When they tried disconnecting the MAF the revs dropped dramatically which suggests the MAF is working as it should. They have also checked for obvious air leaks with nothing showing.I was wondering if anyone may have any other suggestions or can recommend a VR6 specialist garage in the Surrey / Sussex / Hampshire / London area? [/quote']My garage has checked for air leaks and coil pack has also been tested / inspected and seems fine.No fault codes apart from usual crankshaft sensor which has alse been checked. Nex 17 Posted October 27, 2012 Report Share Posted October 27, 2012 It sounds to me like it is most likely your coil buddy, l know you have checked it and it looks ok/ has no signs or cracking ect.. but l had the same sort of thing happen to me not long ago, coil looked fine but it felt similar to when l had a coil pack go before. so l got some liquid electrical tape stuff (come in rattle can or paint on) from Plastidip (like £15 a can) took the coil pack apart gave it a few coats and it seem to have sorted it.Might be worth a try? But just my 2 cents [/quote']I had ruled the coil pack out as it didn't show any cracks or signs of arcing out but hearing your comments here it may be worth checking it again or replacing it.I don't suppose anyone has a spare / fully working coil pack in the Surrey area???
