shail 0
Problem - After breaking hardish (say at red lights) when i change to 1st to move off again i sometimes get a 'Dull thud/Clunk' noise which you can feel and hear, just as you put it into 1st, but before you lift the clutch up. It sounds like its coming from either behind the pedals and/or beside my left leg from the transmission tunnel. Is there anything there which could make this noise between the clutch pedal and the gearbox?any ideas?
dubloke 4
the counter weight is the only thing i can think of that would make such a noise there but thats in the engine bay! it may sound like "sucking eggs", but try not to be so eager to jump the amber light and brake more progressively! does it make the noise wen moving away in first from a normal stop? shail 0
Hmmm, counterweight, maybe. I'll get someone to check that for starters. The clunk noise doesnt always happen after hard breaking, just sometimes.Progressive breaking - i'll give it a go(!) BTW what wears pads/discs more - breaking hard for a short time, or softer for a longer time?Ive not tried to start up in second, but i'll give it a go.
trispage 0
Hard breaking for a short time has a tendancy to warp disks if you're unlucky. The longer progressive breaking allows heat to build slowly and can be dissapated easier from the disks/pads
