Lukey. 381
Thats what the chart is for, it enables you to calculate how much seat face you can remove while still retaining enough space for the lifters to function.
Lowlifedubber 9
So what happens if youve had say 20 thou skimmed off the head and then you get a 3 angle valve job which im presuming takes a marginally larger amount off the seats. What is the tolerance? Lukey. 381
You need to take all the measurements on your head and follow the method and you will end up with the figure. It also shows you the angles of the seats etc
Lowlifedubber 9
After a second read i get it.Thanks Luke big help
FishWick 21
One of those valves doesn't look like it's actually closed fully. Are the cams fitted? If not, there's something seriously wrong there.
Lukey. 381
Looked like uncut seats to me.
VR6Pete 1,455
Did you sort this in the end dude?
Daverse 175
Sort of, i took it to a machining company, and they said yeah they can do it no problems. unfortunately in the process of getting it to them i dropped it and left s big gash on the deck. too deep to machine out really
VR6Pete 1,455
Ouch. Bummer. I need a new head for mine. Going get stealth build me one up
Daverse 175
Whats up with yours? did the leak down test go ok at stealth?
VR6Pete 1,455
Didn't do it. It's well down on power and burning oil, suspecting worn valve guides, at 118k they are generally buggered, usually a good head overhaul fixes 60% of oil consumption issues on VR's as they start passing oil at around 80k. Daverse 175
Bummer, sorry to hear that, at least its not too much of a bad job if you have a spare one you can build up, could've been piston rings e.t.c Not going to be much help i know but i have a set of spare refurbed valves if you need em. VR6Pete 1,455
Ahhh well, these things happen, unknown engine at the end of the day, only made 192 after the remap and 186 before... So bit disappointed. Still could be the rings, but won't really known unless the head is off, it's not totally blowing out smoke, just as If your coming off the peddle...Spoiler now works now after some wizardry under the dash.... Also my original exhaust is blowing out of every weld joint lol, showing its age and I need a new rack as its heavy steering when turning right....Had to get a new outer cv joint as there was a good inch of play in the drive shaft...Best get saving lol! Daverse 175
yeah that sounds like bad guides / seals. And here I was thinking the corrado was done!
VR6Pete 1,455
Oh it's never done I knew the exhaust was on its last legs. Jobs for the winter I suppose
