Killcoburn 0
I'm fresh from a search in the hope I can diagnose this, I've just done a 150 mile round trip to the coast and on the way down I noticed a Clicky noise, initially I thought it might be a heat shield rattling or something loose, but it turned out it was only in 3rd gear, it gains speed as you accelerate and is definitely only happening in third.I've tried going though previous posts, but it's really awkward to specifically search without knowing the issue itself, so hopefully somebody can please fill me in?Thanks
Killcoburn 0
Well my Clicky noise has quadrupled in volume, rendering 3rd gear unusable, it still pulls a little, but I don't dare put it in. It's beginning to make a light tick in 1st now, and there's a tapping noise when Its on tickover, this completely goes when I press the clutch pedal in.If anybody can help me please do, I'd appreciate it massively. Daverse 175
I'd start by replacing the oil, might help things. As for the actual problem, im not sure, hopefully someone will be along soon..
Killcoburn 0
I'll get onto that, thanks
Lukey. 381
75w90 should give a bit of a buffer so long as it isn't terminal
Killcoburn 0
Ahh wicked thank you I'm prepping for a pretty hideous garage bill but I'll get some fresh oil in so maybe I can delay the pain for a while
Daverse 175
Might be worth putting a gearbox flush in there before you put the new oil in, get all the old crud out of the gears.
Killcoburn 0
Will do, I'll report back when I've got it to that stage, thanks for the tips
Daverse 175
Oh one more thing, make sure you can undo the top filler plug before you drain it, becuase if it siezes you will have an empty gearbox with no way of filling it!
Lukey. 381
Oh and 17mm allen key required to undo the plugs, I had to get one from a motor factors it was a 1/2 inch socket bit for a lorry.
Killcoburn 0
Thanks guys! Today is finally the day, will report once I've been out and got the gear, I hope so badly that it works!!!
Killcoburn 0
I got down and dirty this afternoon with the car, went for a quick drive to make sure the oil was warmed up, then back onto the drive, tested the filler plug first, both came out with a little elbow grease. The oil was mostly grey with sort of foamy looking bits in, but it may have mixed with some of the wd40 that dripped off the plugs I undid.I replaced the oil using a piece of clear tubing fed down through the engine bay, funnel on top, worked well and saved me buying an oil pump It started to spill out of the hole just as we got to 2 litres so I assume it's spot on going by what I've read.I took it for a nice smooth drive at first, putting it into 3rd resulted in the same fast clacking scary noise, the other gears go in perfectly (even 3rd shifts in fine, reverse is still great also.)Long story short, the initial clacking noise on startup is still present, and still goes away on pressing the clutch, so I think I will look into clutch change next, eurocarparts are doing 20% off everything Thank you for all your support though, I hope it works soon, I really want to enjoy it through all the gears!
