Hi mate, assume you've had it on the VAG-COM and you have a fault code 01177 which relates to "Engine control unit not matched. W wire between control units is OK". To match the ECU, insert the authorized ignition key into the lock and switch on the ignition. Select the immobiliser (address 25) and select Adaptation (group 10). Enter channel 0 (or 00) and select save. Exit the immobiliser address and turn off the ignition, then the car should be able to start.

sometimes its just a case of a little WD 40 on the connectors to the coil that goes around the ignition barrel to the immob ECU, if none of the above works, then i'm afraid you'll need to get whats known as a "imobiliser delete" from the likes of Stealth Racing to get around this very common problem.

Hi Pete,

I thought been Club membership l was qualified to use private message sorry!.How do one become a private message user.Secondly regarding my initial question,about my Golf VR6 been out of use for almost a year and half,will that have any further affect on my current issue of starting.Thanks
