Jonrandom 2
Hi, I am rebuilding a AUE that sucked up water and have found that im going to have to get the cylinders rebored. Was thinking I may as well go bigger so how big can you go safely? Im going to be buying new forged pistons and rods etc so can get them to suit. Thanks for any help
UnitedMotorsport 55
What is the reason for 'having' to bore the block?

Jonrandom 2
Have been told on vortex that it can be bored out to a 3.1l? Is that ok cant the block take it especially if I'm going to turbo it?
UnitedMotorsport 55
An engine should only ever be bored enough to clean up any damage. Boring these engines gives ~no power gain.3.1 will be ~85mm, not advisable.
Jonrandom 2
I was wondering whether that was a bit much. Ive got a Garrett GTX 3582r turbo which im going to fit to the engine so any extra displacement will help reduce the lag. It has the twin scroll evo hotside so will make a mani to suit to help as well.So whats the maximum do you think it can be bored out to? sparkz
RBPE 198
As said, just do a half mill overbore so longevity is sustained, that's all you should ever really do and concentrate on denser colder charged air etc instead. But 1mm is usually fine after that pushing the limits of wall thickness especially if forced induction
RBPE 198
P.S. Twin-scroll T3 is it? On a VR6? That's usually reserved for 4 cylinder, open T3 or divided T4 for the win
Jonrandom 2
Sorry have been away for a while. Thanks for the info, well most of the engine got stolen out of my garage last year am just replacing it so no need to bore it now, as cylinder walls are sound, need to still get pistons tho. Thankfully the turbo was not with it. P.S. Twin-scroll T3 is it? On a VR6? That's usually reserved for 4 cylinder, open T3 or divided T4 for the winIts got the hotside from the evo on it, internal wastegate etc. Was going to stick with that as made a manifold and downpipe for a TD05 on my 1.8t but it wasn't easy. So will change it the divided T4, much easier to fabricate. I hope lol VR6Pete
