matty.vrt 120
Ok, so I've been running a DRP 02M now for the past year and a half. The gears are super short and I find myself living in 4th, 5th and 6th all the time. I would like to change the final drives to gear it all up a bit, giving me 6th gear as a nice motorway cruiser instead of been on edge ready to rip. I have bought an ERF 02M gearbox and had planned to swap the final drives over but some one suggested just swapping the bell housing over. So my question is will this work? And does anyone have experience with 02M's and final drives?
VIW28 29
I'm running complete ERF gearing in my 02M, it is pretty long but boost makes up for it, 3rd being the magic gear
daveyboy 897
Sorry for hijacking your thread matty but what would be the best 6speed box for an N/A VR6? That was to you VIW28 as you seem to be pretty clued up on these sort of things. I was thinking a mk4 gttdi box or something?
VIW28 29
I wouldn't go for diesel gearing with an N/A setup as it's too long...takes the power to compensate IMO. I can't say for sure though as I haven't experienced it personally. Possibly the standard gearing in an 02M from an R32 or 4 motion (DRP as above) would be best?
daveyboy 897
I plan on turbo'ing in a year or so depending on my funds. I do a fair bit of motorway cruising to get to work so wanted to keep the revs down a little
matty.vrt 120
VIVW28 is correct a diesel 02M box would kill a NA vr6 I would use R32 and convert at a later date.

Did you convert yourself or did some one do it for you? And did you upgrade/modify the selector forks while it was apart I've herd the rivits on the selector fork can be problematic? VIW28 29
It's the only bit I didn't do myself actually, friend of mine has the VW Tech gearbox training so let him do it. He rebuilt it with new seals and bearings etc and did a great job, it feels great.
matty.vrt 120
Cool what would you recommend I budget for the seals and bearings?
