Ickyketseddie 89
So the golf I brought turned up with leads that literally fell to pieces, so I need to order some more. Basically I just don't wanna buy more of the same. So do I just go to the stealers and get raped, or does anyone have any positive experience with say GSF/ECP or another patern part. Not really looking to spend a fortune on 'performance' leads unless someone got a damn good reason why lol. Thanks in advance!
VR6Pete 1,455
Buy genuine, pay once mate.... I've had GSF ones, and didn't last too long, got magnecors now though, good lead, and they have a repair service too which I've used before
Ickyketseddie 89
Any idea what they cost from the stealers or the magnecore alternatives?I must admit I've had magnecores on my old 8v and never had any trouble.
VR6Pete 1,455
magnecore are alternatives... not cheap but bloody good, I had all new ends put on mine following a crash for my mk3, cost me just over 25 quid fix and test them, all came back looking like new!
sleepymike 15
I had some Magnecore leads on my vrt and they caused me no end of bother trying to find why I was getting a weak spark. Any more than 0.9 bar of boost and I was getting a misfire, changed them to genuine VW leads and the problem was solved. And yes the Magnecore leads were also bought brand new! The more i ask round the less people rate them i know I will never be buying them again!
Ickyketseddie 89
Guess I'd better put a call into the sealers then! I think I always knew I'd'd be best I'm just such a tight arse! Lol
sleepymike 15
I bought mine 2-3 months ago and they were about £175.
mikevr6 0
I got a set from Dubpower a few years back. They were recommended on the Corrado Forum.http://dubpower.co.uk/HT%20leads.HTM£50 posted to me in Germany for the "Premium" leads. I was advised not to bother with the pricier ones and that was for a Supercharged VR6.
wardycatt 7
I fitted generic leads (GSF I think) about 12-18 months ago and haven't had any issues. The only thing I would say is that they don't stand up to being repeatedly removed / put back in if you're doing lots of work on the car. They're clearly not as well made as Magnecore leads, but if you're on a tight budget then generic pishers should do the job for a couple of years (in my humble opinion). That gives you time to save for some decent ones, should you so desire.
Ickyketseddie 89
I never even thought of dubpower. Well for £35 they've got to be worth a go. I take it you had no issue mate? Thanks for all the feedback and thoughts!
Lukey. 381
Another vouch for genuine over generic, first time I removed the generic ones most of the connectors snapped clean off, I've had the genuine ones currently installed on and off loads of times and they're still like brand new. Ickyketseddie 89
Hmmm well I've ordered some dub power ones. I'll offer some feedback when they arrive and see what the quality looks like. Hopefully they will be fine! Otherwise I guess it's onto genuine ones! Thanks again everyone!
VR6Pete 1,455
Yeah dub power ones are good, did you just go with the standard core ones?
Ickyketseddie 89
Yeah just 7mm ones. If I'm honest I can't see the point of another on my application? I guess there's more of a case if you're running a FI setup...?
Antihero1981 8
dub power ones are pretty good , had mine 3 + years and no issues so far
