Big Ends And Piston Rings ?

Recommended Posts

Well after rebuilding my 2.9 obd1 vr6 engine I tried to start it and it turns out the big ends are away so I stripped it all back down again and they are pretty bad heres a pic,

So do you think the crank will need reground because of this or would I be better trying to get a new one from someone breaking their engine to save the hassle of getting it reground and getting oversize shells ?

Also there is 2 slight scratches on one of the cylinder walls, Would I be able to smooth them out with a honing tool or would it need to be bored out ?

If it needs bored can you use oversize piston rings as I dont want to have to buy oversize pistons ?

I will try and get a picture of the scratches to show what they are like.

Thanks,

I suppose you have nothing to loose by rehoning the bores if they are only very light.

with regards to your crank, all comes down to your time scales and budget :)

personally Id probably get a second hand crank in better condition, but on the flip side, who's to say that this also will need to be re-ground?

Pictures will help though :)
