vr6mikey 26
I have just bought a 20 year old corrado which has been stood for 10 years it starts and runs but will not idle 2 cylinders are reading 90 and 60 and it's the 2 left cylinders as you face it there's no smoke no loss of oil or water and no white gunk I've got a feeling it's the gasket but I am a pure novice any ideas ? Also is it a wise move to keep running to maybe free it up ? Cheers mike
Sean_Jaymo 11
If it's been stoop that long, I'd suggest rings or pitting of the bore. You're probably best taking the spark plugs out and boroscope it or if you don't have the tools, head off and look at the pistons and bores. If it has gone, new engine is cheapest or bore out to 3.0 litres!
vr6mikey 26
Thanks Sean in the process of finding a good garage to carry the work in the manchester area Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

VR6Pete 1,455
Pics 10 years standing is practically a barn find lol. Yes sounds like it may need some work. Although arguably a 2.8 will probably give similar power figures than the aged 2.9 and probably less thrashed lol Club Chairman
vr6mikey 26
Thanks Pete have you done this ? And is it a straight forward swap ? And will I need to change Ecu if it's obd2 ? Just trying to weigh up all my options Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
VR6Pete 1,455
A full obd2 upgrade is a little tricky, wiring looms need chopping, MAF, lambda, throttle body, manifold, immobiliser all needs tweaking. I've done this on mine with just the 2.9 lump, well worth doing! Or, you can just swap your "core" engine, essentially all 2.8 obd1 and obd2 engines are the same, it's just the sensors and management that differs. Club Chairman
vr6mikey 26
Would just like to update everyone who has helped me on here ,my car was in a garage for 2 months to get the running issue sorted I got it back and was told it had no errors showing on vag com after the crank and cam sensors where changed and another maf did nothing he told me it had compression loss in 2 cylinders I have just completed a test myself and got 10.5 -11.5 bar in 3 cylinders and 12.5 in the other 3 I would say that was acceptable or am I wrong ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
james4287 1
I would say that was fine, does it still have a running issue and what is the issue ? VR6Pete
michael5556 247
Hiya mate. Drop me a pm if you would like me to have a look. I'm in Stockport so not too far. It will probably need a leak down test. Low compression could be a number of things. Probably best to do the test before you take it apart.
Daverse 175
Michael should be quite the expert in low compression tests by now Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk michael5556
vr6mikey 26
Thanks everyone for your help and advise I have taken it to a vw specialist in manchester he has confirmed the engine is fine it's probably an electrical or injector problem and should be sorted soon I will post the problem as soon as I find out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
michael5556 247
Wait so the only thing that has been changed is the sensors and now your compression is fine? If those are your results they don't sound too bad. Was it 1-2-3 with the lower results?
vr6mikey 26
Hi mike my car was in a local garage for 2 months and he couldn't fix it he told me the engine was knackerd because it had bad compression I think he was talking bollox he said he changed all the sensors but I don't think he did Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
vr6mikey 26
When I tested compression it was the top bank of cylinders with lowest compression but only a bit lower than the other 3 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
michael5556 247
Ok. Well that seems fine then. How is it too drive?
vr6mikey 26
It's really over fueling and will not idle apart from that iam pretty pleased with it like I said it's been stood for 10 years so is going to need a little work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Daverse 175
Get it on vagcom, that should tell you whats up Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
michael5556 247
If it needs scanning I could do it. Over fueling could be injectors like you previously said. Is it obd1 or 2?
vr6mikey 26
Hi mike it's obd1 it's in a garage in Failsworth but it's great to know there's a local guy willing to help cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
michael5556 247
It's cool what about the ISV valve? Have you cleaned it out? And the throttle. That will help.
