Some Vr6 Turbo Advice

Im sure i fit in the slot of people who ask these questions on a weekly basis but im one of the people who will actually do it :) haha.. 

 

ok so the spec of engine ill be building to get me 400whp+

 

2.8 / 2.9 ( OBD2 )

fully forged engine 8:5:1

MSD coils 

ARP fixings

short runner intake

large FMIC

water / meth injection 

Oil cooler

044 fuel pump and swirl pot

 

**GT3076R .82AR ( would this be a good choice ?? )

** ECU wise is it worth going standalone or could stealth work magic on the standard edu

** unsure on what head work i should do as yet, iv read cams are not really worth it running a turbo ???? correct me if im wrong.

** unsure on size of injectors iv seen a few mixed bag of results what are you guys running???

** i was thinking of a tubular manifold but iv read good things about the log manifolds ( link attached )

** what clutch would handle 400whp++ i dont wont a multi plate setup

That's a good choice of turbo for the power your wanting

Ecu wise, I would recommend united motor sports software and they would tell you which injectors to get with the software.

Head work, cams are worth while, 263, 268's. Bigger inlet valves, leave the exhaust valves as the turbo restricts the flow anyway. If you wanted to rev higher then had valve springs, titanium retainers etc.

Manifolds are a debatable topic and I'm sure everyone will have different opinions.

Clutches are also debatable. Running a spec 3 and running about 400. No problems with it.

I'll get in contact with United motor shortly, as for head work, I think I will defiantly invest in some cams now probably 268s but I'm not looking to rev much over standard but could be worth investing in valve springs, titanium retainers etc to keep it all safe to say I'll be investing £1k in forged rods and pistons..

Your right with the manifold I really don't no where I stand ATM,

And as for the clutch I think I'll need to look into exactly what setup to go for as I will be running an R32/4motion box and BMW rear LSD for a AWD setup

Makes sure you invest in some arp hardware, head bolts and rod bolts :)

Which short runner you going for?

And are you using the standard intank pump as a lifter pump to the Bosch 044? I did that without a swirl pot.

I'm just about too sell my Garrett gt3076 turbo with either a 0.63 or 1.06 housing on it, and it's only done about 500 miles. Also got a set of 6 Siemens 630 injectors, a spa log type exhaust turbo manifold and Helix v6 4 motion paddle clutch and single mass flywheel that's rated to 350ftlbs of torque but I've been dragging with it this year and putting 400ftlbs through it and absolutely no slip at all, again that's also done less than 500miles.

that saves me a few ££ not getting valve springs ect haha..

 

yeah APR are high on my list and are a must, the rod and piston kit come with ARP rod bolts to thats not bad at all.

 

ill be getting a SP intake.

 

no, ill be having a fuel cell as the standard tank will be binned off to make room for the BMW rear subframe...

iv spend most of my day at work on the net researching some more on building ym VR6T time well spent if you ask me lol

 

after some good reading im starting to head away from forged pistons and rods for my power output, ( 400whp ) it seams most of the US lads are just running head spacers ARP hardware all round and achieving this power output reliably 

 

if this is the case it will free up almost £2k to save  :lol:  or put towards something in the build.

 

what do you guys think?

I completely agree. Definitely only needed for chasing big numbers. I'm only running 400 but mine is overkill. But I'm chasing lol put that money towards cams and big valves. Have a read of the DIY turbo thread on here. The more power running n/a then the more power running less boost than usual. If that makes sense lol

Sweet, yeah that makes sense to me, my old problem is I no ill end up chaining numbers but not for a long time.. What sort of max numbers could I see with a head spacer do you think?? I no I'll be running water meth and could use nos in the future so I really think I'll go for a head spacer..

Should I stay with 8:5:1?

Should I stay with the garret or get the precision 6176 turbo exhaust housing t4 96/ar they are almost half the price :o

log manifold should be good for your power goals if you can get a genuine atp exhaust manifold as the ebay ones the ports are not that great so you would have to port match as I did!!!! I also have the pte 6176rs t4 0.96ar but haven't put boost through it yet lol will throw 24psi when car is finished im after similar power goals 450whp+

Before I go ordering my PRECISION 6262 would would you say the best spec would be to go for? I carnt find much on what would be the exact one to complement my output and mods..
