PeteVRT 22
Thought I would put up a few pics of my new project. My old Vento VR6 has been laid to rest, but managed to get hold of a tidy solid Mk3 Golf match which I'm going to swap over all the good bits from my Vento, loom, engine and running gear and do my turbo conversion which was originally planned for the Vento as I had already purchased a lot of the parts a few years ago. Started by stripping the horrible beige mouldy interior out (the Golf has been stood for 18 months) . Will keep updating on progress, hopefully get a bit more done soon, hope you like
PeteVRT 22
Got quite a bit done this week, and today stripping the Golf with Kyle. Stripped off doors, wings and front end. Dash out, back end stripped. Up on stands, start on the underside next week. Slight bits of rust but nothing major, and bit of damage to the N/S inner wing, must have had a slight knock at some point, again not too bad. Looking very solid, just needs a good clean. Got the engine running, and all ok as not been run for 18 months. Want to sell the engine, gearbox, etc, so if anybody interested let me know. Its done about 93k, 1.4 and was always a good runner. Also bonnet and decent grey dash VR6Pete

PeteVRT 22
Thanks, still a long way to go, not done much on it for months. Still need to get my Vento up there to start swapping bits over, and strip the VR6 engine. Just found out yesterday that my sons best mate who I got the car off passed away after being paralysed 2 years ago after an operation, he was only 22. This was how I came about getting the Golf 12 months ago, so this is for him now, given me more incentive to get it done. RIP Dan
PeteVRT 22
Went up to my lockup today where the Vento is, to try again to get it running as its been stood 2 years and want to make sure everything runs before its swapped over, after a few hours messing about with the jump leads on I found the aftermarket immobiliser wasn't giving the fuel pump enough power. By-passed it and eventually the beast roared and immediately gassed the garage (and me out)! Lovely, so now need to get the Vento up to the other garage where the golf is to get cracking, a couple of pics from earlier

Lozi 22
Nice project! Seems a shame about the vento as there aren't many left, will you be putting the vento front on the golf? PeteVRT, palmer and VR6Pete
palmer 17
Nice bit of progress bud, Good luck with the rest of the swap :-) Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
PeteVRT 22
Thanks guys, the Vento front will be used. I would love to get the Vento back on the road, as I love that car and getting rarer, all the people who used to say I didn't know they put the VR6 in the Vento. Like the front end because it's different to the Golf, but the car needs too much welding now, had it 12 years now and will be sorry to see it go. I'm selling some bits to fund parts needed for the Golf, got 4 doors in dragon green and also a mint vento boot lid
PeteVRT 22
Some people keep saying I'm mad for getting a basic Golf and going to all this trouble, and why didn't I go and get a VR6 Golf but to be honest most I've seen are in a really bad state, and really nice ones are going for a lot of money. Whereas this Golf is the most solid one I've seen recently, and only cost me £200. Also making the most of the good bits on my Vento, coilovers, etc. Looking for a nice VR6 leather interior in black, also most interior trim parts and carpets if anybody knows of somebody sellingPete Edited November 10, 2013 by PeteVRT
Lukey. 381
I think their point is it will never be a VR6 on the logbook and its still a mk3 so it will make insurance etc prob more tricky too. But I totally see your point about most mk3s being rusters now and that you've got a decent mk3 shell to hand so it makes sense.

But I totally see your point about most mk3s being rusters now and that you've got a decent mk3 shell to hand so it makes sense.I'm not bothered about the logbook, etc. I don't want it to be VR6 look a like, it will just be a nice car when its done original or not. I cant believe the state of some of these Mk3's now, this one has never even seen a welder. Progress slow at the minute with one thing and another. Hoping to spend the next few weekends cracking on and some more pics

PeteVRT 22
Well, not much has happened the last few months unfortunately my lad split up with his GF and moved back home and the Golf is in her garage, not ideal. Plus I wanted somewhere bigger under cover for both cars which is why I've not touched the Golf as the wheels can be put on and rolled out. So I have now got my own unit for my cars, and foreigners, so I went to my council lockup today put a battery on the VR and air in the tyres and drove it to its new home for stripping, forgotten how good it sounds! But when we got to the unit one of the garages had left a Corsa blocking the doors so we used the Vento to drag it out of the way! Just need to get the Golf shifted now to go alongside and really get cracking, no excuses now as its only a few miles away from home too. A pic of the wheels which I will be using on the Golf aswell Edited March 16, 2014 by PeteVRT damian8588

PeteVRT 22
nice and roomy! It will be better once I clear all the rubbish the last people left behind! I've painted the walls aswell to brighten the place up a bit
Marneus 78
I'd kill to find a workshop like that! Will make working on your Golf so much easier!Full steam ahead!!! daveyboy
PeteVRT 22
Hopefully get the golf up to the unit soon and crack on. Still on the lookout for a 3 door VR6 interior loom, interior, and also does anybody know if there is some sort of cover that goes over the chassis on the rear panel where I removed the towbar? You can see where the towbar went into the chassis box section in one of the pics at the startcheersPete
PeteVRT 22
Well finally got the Golf up to the unit today, here's a few pics one on my mates transporter and then at its new home for a while. Progress should improve a tad now! I've also decided to put the turbo conversion on hold and just do the VR6 transplant and get it on the road for a bit, I'm having withdrawal symptoms! Then do the turbo early next year, I blame driving the Vento the other week! Edited April 12, 2014 by PeteVRT
PeteVRT 22
Well, got quite a bit done today, front end of the Vento stripped. Close to removing both engines now. Sort of offered a wheel up to see if the wheels will suit the Golf, opinions appreciated! bear in mind the wheels will look nicer when refurbished and will sit closer to the arch. Then my mate Mikey turned up with his Bug, a couple of pics for those who like their old VW's Edited April 13, 2014 by PeteVRT
sep 68
Loving the bug.. wheels look good maybe an anthracite tho. I love a bit of dish on a mk3 tho
PeteVRT 22
Yeah, the pics aren't the best so it's hard to tell. Wheels are filthy. I like dished wheels with the plastic arches but leaving the arches so think these will suit it, quite a clean look. Thought you were popping up today Edited April 13, 2014 by PeteVRT
