Marneus 78
Well I had a free day so SWMBO gave me permission to go play with the Golf, so I drove over to the parents house, moved some cars around & got to work. 1st thing to do was to strip the door & remove the window/regulator Mt ghetto window closer Window & bit of wood out Next was to strip the door of the GTI & remove the bits I needed. I didn't take any pictures of this or the re-install of the regulator & window.... Mainly due to the fact that I was swearing at the stupid little gap in the door that I had to thread everything through. Got it all done & I now have a working drivers side window again. As it was a nice dry day I decided to fit the Koni's that I bought off Tim on here a last month. 1st thing was to jack the front up & get on with it. Best buy yet for this car is: Wheel alignment tools Safely up on Axle stand Drivers side front fitted Didn't really take many more pictures due to wanting to get finished before it got dark but here is how it looks all done A bit far away to tell but it sits perfectly. On my way home the rear wheels started rubbing & catching the arch so as soon as I got it up the drive (very steep slope) I took the rear wheels off & rmoved the 20mm spacers. Took it back out (Nearly ripping off the bumper reversing down the drive again!) & no rubbing at all. I think the next expenditure will be getting the arches rolled so I can keep the spacers.I'll get a few more pictures tomorrow showing how she sits now.
Marneus 78
This is how she looks now Just about right height wise but really need the arches rolling so I can put the spacers back on. Ickyketseddie

Marneus 78
They're from a Mk1 Skoda Octavia. I bought them cheap just to check fitment for 16's but I really like how they look.
mattvr6 133
Ahhhh yea I like um mite have to get rid of the solitudes for some there different which is good as everything else has been done to death Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Marneus 78
Yeah mate. I'd never seen them on a mk3 but thought the fat 5 spokes & square edges would work with the shape of the Golf.... I was right
Marneus 78
I finally got round to taking a photo of the car with it's yellow tinted fogs/indicators I think I might need to re do another left hand indicator as in the cold weather condensation seems to be building behind the laminex. Marneus 78
Right.... I got her in for the MOT last Saturday & she failed but only on the ABS The tester said that she's very clean underneath with virtually no surface rust at all & only a small bit of damage where some idiot has jacked her up just in front of the jacking point. So she's now tucked up in the garage until I get a few days off so I can take the ABS pump off & send it away for refurb. So with a clean bill of health i.e. no expensive rust to sort out I can start gathering bits for phase 1 of modifications What's the best way to empty the brake fluid & what should I replace it with? I'm thinking I may as well stick some DOT 5.1 fluid in there but don't know if this is compatible??? Any ideas?
Lukey. 381
The best way is the just push the old out with new, if going to 5.1 I would spose that you would have to use twice as much, first amount to push and flush then the next amount to push the first flushing amount out. Marneus 78
Well I managed to get an hour free this morning, went to get the Golf out of the garage & the battery is flat..... So..... I left her there..... I thought that while I had some spare time I'd fit the bonnet lifters that I bought last month. You've all seen them before but here's some pictures anyway And a couple of her tucked up And the reason that I can't put a deep front spoiler or lower her anymore Too bloody steep Here's the offending item that stopped the MOT The ABS controller that needs remanufacturing. I'm hoping to get on to this next weekend so that I can get it back on the road before Ultimate Dubs.
Marneus 78
Well seeing as though I can't drive the Golf & I'm supposed to be saving for my wedding it seemed only fair to buy a little present for her so she doesn't feel left out..... So I bought her some new shoes Audi S3 Avus in 17x7.5 et35They need a light refurb & then tyres but that will have to wait till May.... I think I need some coilovers next, the Koni/H&R I have on now is just a tad too soft. Thinking of either FK Highsports or the AP ones (Around £400)

Marneus 78
I really want to learn how to detail it myself but time is very tight at the moment. I'll probably have a load of stupid questions for you when I get started though
Marneus 78
Well, I had a few hours free yesterday so though I'd start getting the Golf back on the road. 1st thing to do was remove the ABS pump...... What a pain in the arse that was! The offending item. It was collected by BBA Reman this afternoon so hopefully they will repair it & i'll get it back next Wed/Thurs. While it was on axle stands I decided to remove the side skirts as the passenger side was held on by duct tape. This is what I found, it's been stuck on with sikaflex as it had rotted all the way through. Tomorrows job is to get the side strips off (Lots of fishing wire, a bit of heat & a ton of elbow grease needed) then wash the car & clean out the arches. I changed the front lights to these. What do you guys think? I love the way the front looks now, just need to get the vents painted. Bealieboy
Lukey. 381
much prefer fog vents to fogs and blanks
Bealieboy 1,625
I like the vents but I also like the fogs, yellows ones particularly.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Marneus 78
Mine were just laminex over standard fogs but I prefer the ambers & the vents. Just ordered a load of cleaning gear as hopefully I'll get a couple of days on it next week
