bennyk 1,238
Took the VR to Players Classic this weekend, was an absolutely brilliant show with a great mix of cars, on show and on track, it's also at Goodwood which is a beautiful place! Can't wait until next year, a highly recommended show! Also got a couple of 'proper' pics of the car taken; matty.vrt, Bealieboy, c00k and 3 others

bennyk 1,238
I did something against my religion this week and paid someone else to do something on the VR, I had the gear and my US hand brake gaiter's re-trimmed in alcantara to match the seat centre's. I was looking at changing the gear gaiter and knob but I really like the oe full leather ones and I'm really pleased with the outcome, the only problem is that I'm now looking at other parts of the interior wondering what else I could get done! bennyk 1,238
So today I did something that I didn't particularly want to do, but clearly I'm now to far into this show and scene bull crap so I did it! Notched my drivers side chassis as when I air out the front of the car sat higher on the drivers side, due to the driveshaft sitting on the chassis, here's how I did it; Marked it up; Cut the hole ready for a bit of 3" pipe; Started to weld it up before cutting off the bottom half, Got it all welded up, which was bloody awkward on the back half due to there being a VR6 in the way! Grinded down; Prepped, primered then stoneguarded Painted in good old flash red I got made in an aerosol; Suspension and brakes bolted back up So now she airs out without sitting on the driveshaft and sits nice and level daveyboy, VR6CABBS, Dave_ciw and 2 others

bennyk 1,238
Haven't updated this for ages, I never seem to get 5 spare minutes, one of the many joys of parenthood as I'm discovering! after a bit of use a few weeks back I realised that there seemed to be antifreeze stains appearing under the bonnet, then realised a couple of days before VW festival that it was the water pump, luckily I had a new one about from the other engine I'm building for the car , so got it on there after having much fun with rounded/seized bolts on the water pump pulley! The car then ran without a hiccup or sign of a leak all the way to Leeds and back! VW Festival was also absolutely brilliant, had such a giggle with the rest of the VR6oc crew! Then the other day a Votex front lip appeared locally on eBay for not much money and though I'd been after a Henri Lloyd lip for I don't know how long, I thought I'd have a 'crack' at this crack being the best word for it! Cheers Wayne!A day or 2 later after much grinding cut drilling riveting, fibreglassing painting etc etc, it's was back in one piece and repainted in black texture paint, I now really liked it and hoped it would fit a US bumper! And after even more cutting, trimming filing etc, it did! Bealieboy, VR6Pete and c00k
bennyk 1,238
After weeks of thinking about it I decided that I wanted to try something a bit different with the wheels so decided to have them diamond cut with dark grey backgrounds and satin laquered, as per some new Audis. Stuck the Compomotive's back on and it looked pretty awesome with the Air ride, lip and Comps on it! I ended up sending the wheels to a local firm that promised the earth but haven't quite delivered, the finish is a bit crap to say the least? They looked OK on the car though and this was the day before one of my favourite shows Edition 38, Was an excellent day and I was just about to leave when a nice man stuck a sticker on my window! Turns out I'd been awarded 2nd best Mk3 Golf behind Robg60 with Dougie Trix the other runner up.Lining up waiting, colour's of the German flag! Then on the stage!!! Was brilliant to win something at Edition after years and years of seeing the types of cars that win here in magazines!! Super chuffed with that at the moment especially after reminding myself how this car started at the beginning of this thread!!! pappers, yinnyvr6 and Bealieboy

bennyk 1,238
So due to having a 1 year old further progress has been slow and I can't completely leave the car alone or say that's it's finished as that just doesn't happen with me! I did manage to turn this;Into this though; Hopefully my little one will now make it to a couple of shows with me next year in his own car!emoji16] So back to the main subject I managed to acquire a Votex body kit from Wayne as part of the deal with the Mystic blue VR6 I sold him a little while back, so I now plan to fit the full kit next year along with a set of Euro bumpers with a couple of little bits I want to do to them, here's a few pics; The kit will be finished in a textured black finish to give it a factoryish look Had to do a couple of repairs to the kit; Also managed to get these from Christian Wolf over in Germany Super rare smoked ZKW long fogs . Also bought a Porsche Boxster front calliper set up to fit 312mm discs for a good price off of Ebay Decided to paint them black as I have quite a bit of red already! Then confuse people by letting them think I've fitted TT RS or S3 calipers to a Mk3 Also got the side skirts removed ready for the Votex ones to go on,Not liking the non side skirt look! And apart from pulling my interior apart to fit a DAB Alpine head unit and roof aerial that's about it for now! VR6 Supercharged and wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk

bennyk 1,238
This weeks errr progress or more me tinkering I suppose I've decided to revert back to the original bumpers so I can fit the full Votex kit as the rear bumper doesn't fit US bumpers at all and the front doesn't fit properly as shown on the previous page, so I thought that I'd have a play with the plate recess on the front bumper to match my shortened rear one.@donnyboy kindly donated his old front bumper for me to cut bits out of, so I could try the following; Trimmed about;Holes cut into bumper, no going back at this point; All hot stapled and plastic welded in;A skim of filler and some primer; I then trimmed up the rear bumper to fit the Votex rear skirt; Then for the first time since painting the car nearly 3 years ago I ordered some of the exact paint the car was painted in and put a coat over the 2 bumpers that I'll hopefully get fitted over the weekend if I get a spare hour or 2! donnyboy and VR6 Supercharged
