Vince12v 20
Evening chaps, after replacing the inlet, throttle and exhaust gaskets, I reassemble the manifold also removed my nackard pvc and fittin a catch tank, I have now got an annoying intermittent idle issue, seems too be abit harder to start too.It will idle ok but then it will start hunting, blip the throttle an it stops but I drive away come to a stop and it's there again!!Anyone got any ideas, I've recently changed the blue temp sensor tooSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RsvRob 6
I would suggest something isn't seated properly and it's sucking in to much air. Or your new gaskets have a leak. Sent from Dagobah
Vince12v 20
That was what I thought, so I doubled checked the seal with abit of washing up juiceSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rawrod 2
Alright chaps, I'm new to the site but not new to the vr6. Had one about 6 years now I'm a qualified mechanic and got about 16 years experience, currently working for the AA, I noticed you said you changed your Pcv for a catch can, have you blocked the end going into the air intake pipe? If not then I'm more than certain that is why you've got the hunting, it's drawing in air that isn't being monitored by the Maf sensor. And the ecu is trying to constantly try to correct the a/f ratio. Just a thought, hope this helps! Andy. RsvRob
Vince12v 20
All I've done is remove the pcv and replaced it with the catch can, so it's only rocker cover case pressureSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RsvRob 6
Pcv valve should be inline on a hose from rocker cover. It should go back into the intake system. If you've now fitted a catch can. You need to block where the hose was going to on the intake side. So what you've done is fit New hose from rocker to can then back to intake?? Vince12v 20
Yea pretty much, I couldn't see anywhere else to take it too, my pcv split in 2 so couldn't refit itSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RsvRob 6
Is there a breather on the catch can? Sent from Dagobah
Vince12v 20
NopeSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rawrod 2
exactly my point, the intake pipe will be open to atmosphere and drawing in air try putting your thumb over the hole i bet you a million quid it starts idling perfectly!! The rocker cover isnt the issue, that can happily vent to atmosphere no problem, aside from fumes in the car obviously! Its where the pipe would have met the intake originally thats the issue! Like i said block it off and youll be right as rain!! Edited December 1, 2013 by Rawrod
Vince12v 20
So I need to block off the inlet, so where do I take the 2nd pipe from the catch can?At the moment I have a pipe comin from the rocker to the catch can and a pipe from the catch can to the intake pipe where the pcv would have gone inSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ickyketseddie 89
I don't think anyone thought you had the second pipe. IMO it should work setup like that. What did you do with the charcoal canister breather that normally connects to the pcv pipe? Is you've left that to air then the throttle body will be drawing air from it. Vince12v 20
Naa I've blocked that off, so I don't actually need the 2nd pipe? I can just block the intake pipe and put a breather filter on the catch canSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ickyketseddie 89
You can, some will argue that the pipe is to create positive pressure for the breather which is true but it will run fine without it. Could do it as a test and see if it helps, not sure why it'd make much difference though?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Vince12v 20
I'll leave it as it is then, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
