Reaperx 181
I haven't got round to actually building mine yet so still in the research phase myself. I'm not going with forged rods etc... I am fitting a spacer gasket to lower the compression as I'm aiming for around 300hp wich I am told is doable with pretty much standard internals. I will be removing my engine to fit the gasket as I want to convert the car from obd1 to obd2 think it would be easier with the motor out. Then it is just a case of bolt the turbo and manifold to the engine then plumb everything in.
DanChave 98
What's the reasoning behind converting to OBD2, just for the extra base power from the manifold and throttle body from the OBD1's 172 bhp to the 183 bhp the OBD2 gives you? Will you have to run an aftermarket ecu or can you map the standard ecu?
Reaperx 181
I will be running united motorsports software they have off the shelf stuff for what I'm aiming for. But they only work with obd2 so works out a lot cheaper for me my obd swap was 100 and the setup is 400 from united motorsports. Dread to think what stand alone would cost. DanChave 98
Around the same to be honest! I definitely can't be arsed to change the loom, not after I have just done the conversion lol I take it you don't need a short runner inlet for what you are aiming for? Any idea if you need to uprate the injectors for what you are aiming for?
Reaperx 181
I'm using 440cc injectors that I got with my turbo. Not too sure on the short runner as for me it was an expense I didn't need. My project is all about keeping cost down and just to test myself to see if I can build it. I'm fortunate that I work in a big garage so there is room for me to store my car all my tools are there and my mate is a smart repairer so he is doing the paint. It's kind of become everyone's project now even my fiancée wants to work on it with me Edited August 6, 2014 by Reaperx
DanChave 98
Nice yeah that's kinda the deal with me, I'm a painter so all bodywork issues are never a problem, and I'm teaching myself mechanics as I need/want stuff done to my own cars as long as keeping the original inlet isn't too much of a hindrance then I'll do the same! Reaperx 181
The only way to learn I think is to actually do the job. I was going to try and rush the car and get it ready for harewood house and I could have sent the car to several specialist I know but that's not what I wanted. I want to be able to put a little sticker on it when I'm done that says built not bought. Plus it's a rolling cv for me and could possibly bring new customers into my works. DanChave 98
I fully agree dude, I feel exactly the same My VR6 won't be anything special on the paint side, just a fun car for my own personal enjoyment! My MK3 Cab on the other hand will be a completely different story. I look forward to see how you get on with this, A budget (ish) turbo build is right up my street!

Reaperx 181
Ok so not much of an update on this the paint is nearly complete. Was going to try out the car back on the road this month but decided I'm going to wait until the turbo build is finished. My driver (corsa 1.0) is pretty much dead now so as of Monday I will have a 2001 Octavia vrs to get about in.
