2001 4 Motion - What Rear Diff and Gearbox Oil - Quantity/Weight/Spec ?

Can someone reccomend what oil to use in the rear diff and gearbox of a 2001 4 Motion ?

I have been looking at VW oil, but is expensive for what it is.

Does anyone know what other makes of oils will suffice ?
Am i right think fully synthetic is best ?

Does anyone know if i need a 80w,85w or 90w oil ?
And how many litres i need ?

If you go on opie oils and input your reg you should get all compatible products in each section

i get mine through tps  its the genuine sfuff not expensive and cheaper than a new gearbox or haldex or diff.............................. you get the idea ! seriously though ive heard of people having problems after oil changes and not using the genuine stuff. choice is yours though - pays your money takes your chances..................................

I have just changed my gearbox,transfer and rear diff oil on my 4mmotion. After ringing around local vw and audi parts, they could not tell me what oil it takes or how much. They only gave me a part number which meant nothing. I also tried local car parts shops which told me they do not list anything for my vehicle. Luckily i got talking to a rock oil rep which i told him my story. He told me go leave it with him.a week later he comes down to my work with the correct oil which he made for me and the correct amount.
