Radodb 4
Hey lads I'm going to be starting to build up my engine this weekend but I'm after some advice on my turbo choice and the manifold. i opted for a 6262 T4 ( divided ) ar.82 turbo, im struggling to find a manifold thats not over £1000++ I'm not after spending that much so was looking to build my own. I would be using just one MVR ( 44mm ) wastegate divided up to the wastegate. i only have a SIP migrate welder and should be up to the job of welding it up But can anyone tell me what would be the best material to use I'm only looking to use mild steel. i no its going to be a sod to build and could crack so would it be worth buying a new housing and getting a log manifold 2012-08-08 21.17.10 by daniel.daniel371, on Flickr OR P4070020 by daniel.daniel371, on Flickr
Daverse 175
Im in the middle of building a tubular manifold, and im using 1.5" Stainless sch.45 i think. Would be better tigging it if you can. Also if you help retain the heat i.e heat wrap or ceramic coating e.t.c it would help cracking.Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

RUSS FELLOWSsweet ill drop him an email, but I'm not looking at spending the amounts some places have quoted lol but we shall see
Swivelonit 119
He is making me a bespoke turbo back exhaust for my MK 4, next week we will make a cat back, also a de cat pipe and then, when we fit the turbo he will make the down pipe. All stainless and hand made for very reasonable price comparable with a milltek or similar. andymk312v

I'm doing full tubular mani with individual headers. Well, trying. So far I've just swore and nearly cut my hand off with a slitting disc. Radodb 4
Haha well hope you don't do to much damage to yourself in the process. Are you going for a top mount? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chrisvr6t 19
I think you would need 2 wastegates either side of the collector as exhaust gasses would only escape 1 side and over boost on the other 3 cylinders but I could be wrong.... a proper built twin scroll will give you better spool and top end power.. all depends on how well you make it flow really... but daverse looks to be doing it the right way with stainless... just my 2p worth lol good luck with it
Daverse 175
Yeah want the turbo mounted up and swung across to the right, otherwise it might foul my prop below. I will be running two wastegates too, you dont want any gas stuck in there! Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Radodb 4
Iv noticed some of the big power Honda boys use a single 44mm on twin scrolls they connect both sides if the scrolls together into one pipe and use the single wastegate to control both, I'll find a pic to show you what I mean Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Daverse 175
you could do that, although you might be struggling for room as the firewall will be directly behind it. if you have enough room, you could mount a single wastegate "behind" the collector so it captures all the gases as one. sleepymike 15
I've just made a tubular manifold. It's not twin scroll though!Made from stainless bends and just migged together (apparently migging means less chance of the welds cracking)About 40hrs work and I still need to make some supports and I'm going to wrap it in exhaust wrap.Oh and it's a mk1 caddy engine bay so very little room
chrisvr6t 19
Looks good mate where did u get the stainless tubing as I may have a go at a twin scroll sidewinder manifold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Radodb 4
That's a dam good effort!! Iv got to also ask where did you get the pipe from?? If it's going to be a sod to do I might go T3 ar.82 and go for a log manifold and sell my T4 divided housing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sleepymike 15
I got it from these guys. http://www.ospreyexhaustcomponents.co.uk and was the cheapest stainless 48mm pipe I could find on the net, I bought 12 90 deg bends and 6 135deg bends, and only have a 1 of each left! A divided mani would be done pretty much in the same way but just a different flange and slightly different collector.

chrisvr6t 19
I'm using a precision 6176 with t4 96.ar exhaust housing!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sleepymike 15
I was running a log manifold and a Garrett gt3076 with 1.06 exhaust housing, I'm now using the tubular manifold with a gt35 and 1.06 housing. Edited January 16, 2014 by sleepymike
Radodb 4
I'm just trying to decides if I keep the twin scroll and make my own manifold like the ones iv posted at the top OR go t3 and log Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chrisvr6t 19
You can make it like the 1s you've posted but if twin scroll you will need two wastegates either side of the collector! Log manifolds are easy to get and cheap you can get a eBay ATP style manifold for like £70 all you have to do is port match it as ports are abit smaller on the manifold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Radodb 4
I'm just trying to decide what would be the best setup I won't it reliable as it's going to be the daily lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chrisvr6t 19
Then you can't go wrong with a log manifold!!! What power you looking for? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
