TommyG 0
Hi all, basically, I've recently bought mk2 caddy with a vr6 conversion, obd1 I believe. I bought as a project really and want to pull the motor out, clean engine bay etc and rebuild with a few modifications for a few more horses. Not knowing to much about the vr engine but always fancied one! Could anyone give me a few pointers regarding best parts and best way to approach something like this, sorry if I come across completely clueless but want to do some home work first, cheers guys! GordonC 20
Whats the mileage on the engine because the first thing on my list would be to do the timing chains and tensioners mateVR6 Loonibuggy Santa Pod 2014 !
Ickyketseddie 89
How many horses we talking? Circa 200hp, cams and a remap should get you there or there abouts for sensible money, bigger power, supercharge it for circa 2-2.5k for circa 280hp? All very approximate of course. TommyG 0
The engine has done around the 120k mark from what the last owner tells me, when I bought it that was the first thing I listened for but the engine runs sweet! The more I lift the bonnet the more I can see the conversion I was a rush job another reason to pull it out and make it my own! Probably around the 280 - 300hp mark is a rough figure Ickyketseddie, any suggestions on what cams are best? Cheers guys appreciate the advise
GordonC 20
If your taking the engine out I would do the chains anyway mate and for 280-300bhp you would be looking at supercharging it so keep the cams standard for thatVR6 Loonibuggy Santa Pod 2014 !
Ickyketseddie 89
I think 263s are about the best for charged motors. Any more and I think you risk a bit of valve overlap. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
TommyG 0
Any performance rods and piston needed, or standard alone okay?
Ickyketseddie 89
Standard internals should be fine for that power. You may want to introduce a spacer gasket to drop the compression though. Lots of info on here if you want to have a search. Better from the horses mouth since I haven't actually done it lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
