himselfunknown 4
I'm currently in the process of upgrading the front brakes on my V6 4Motion to 344mm R32 brakes. To do this, I need a new set of discs. My local motor factors are coming back with silly prices for front discs. I have done a quick ebay search and can get cross-drilled and grooved discs (Mtech or similar) for a fraction of the price of the factors. Is this because the local factors are trying to rip me off, or the 'upgrade' discs on ebay are shonky quality? Does anybody have any experience regarding ebay brake discs? The car is mainly used for spirited road driving, and track days. Any help or advice greatly appreciated thanks. Edited February 7, 2014 by himselfunknown
Ickyketseddie 89
I see what you mean with some listing £200+ a side. ECP sell pagid discs for a fraction of the prose although they have the silly expensive ones too. I just found this thread http://www.r32oc.com/topic/40686-pads-and-discs-price/ where someone (with a. 07 r32) got fronts, rears with pads for circa £200. Bargin! Seems to be a discount code too if it's still valid. Gotta be worth checking though! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
himselfunknown 4
Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the link and it was for the Mk5, which I think uses different discs (the PCD is bigger). The price (including the discount, which still works btw) was still close to £400!!! Ickyketseddie 89
Ahhh boo, I knew it was for the mk5 but couldn't imagine they'd be cheaper! Bonus the discount code works though! Was is the code btw I never looked lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
craggsy 91
Genuine mk4 R32 discs are expensive as they are floating discs, mk5 are cheaper as they aren't floating discs.I've used EBC discs on my old VR6 and had no problems
craggsy 91
Also it may be worth looking on the R32OC in case anyone is selling a standard setup

VIW28 29
You can buy 334mm x 32mm EBC Turbo Groove discs for mk4 R32 from Euro Car Parts for under £150 with Club GTI discount. A fair bit heavier than standard discs but still a good disc.

Lukey. 381
Ok fair enough but ice seen people get expensive drilled dais candy they've cracked along the holes.
Ickyketseddie 89
Drilled are more prone to cracking. Be surprised if you have much trouble with a solid disc. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
IbizaPartyBoy 34
Drilled are a complete waste of time.. email HiSpec brakes.. get alloy bells and rotors. They are quite reasonable and will do you ones that will fit whatever oem set up you have.. My rear 275s were about 200-250, and fronts are 300 iirc..
Russ_vr6 12
A disc is a disc just get the cheapestElaborating on this a bit, don't bother with drilled or groved discs, a disc can dissipate heat fine on a riad car, so ignore the flashy aftermarket ones, just buy some high quality basic discs - brembo do a range of oem style discs (I've used brembo hc's for many m as ny track days with issue) just make sure you get decent quality pads
himselfunknown 4
Cheers for all the help guys - eventually I went for some 344mm EBC solid discs, with R32 calipers and yellow stuff pads. They make a massive difference on the track!
