vr6max 0
My vr6 seems to be very thirsty on the oil front and was wondering if this is normal as its not smoking or leaving patches on the drive way? ?!
Guest Olly_K
apparently they do burn oil. mine does anyway, but like you say no smoke or patches !
eViL 0
Mine eats a little bit. Always keep an eye on it. Check it and just top it up weekly, it's safer.

ninja 0
Mine uses about a litre every 1000 miles which seems a lot to me. The owners manual though says it can actually use about this much. I spoke to a mechanic about it and he said it's worth using engine flush before doing an oil change-can free up anything that's sticking. I'm not convinced but I've given it a go anyway.Other than that just do as others have said and check regularly.
Heardy 0
I've never needed to top mine up and it's done 107k!My corrado VR6 used to use a bit though.
speedo 0
I don`t recomend flush, never seen any benifit. VW recon 1 ltr. every 600 is normal use..
FishWick 21
Mine drinks about a litre every 3000.VW say 1 litre per 1000 as a worst case scenario to stop people ringing them up complaining of high oil consumption. Obviously they can't guarantee any particular engine will use a certain amount as some people drive hard and others drive slowly.
speedo 0
Kev. that`s 1000km (600 miles)

might3 0
Mine uses about half a litre every 2000 miles. No smoke or patches either. Glad to hear it's normal. My corrado was just the same.
tommy 0
Mine has needed topping up once since its last service 7000miles ago...I run 10/40 semi...I suppose oil consumption may be a bit higher if you use a thinner fully synthetic oil though!
jamieVR6 0
I use fully synthetic & i top it up once a month to keep it at the top of the dip-stick. it uses about half the dip-stick gauge in that time.
apd 0
use basic 10/40 from vw.2 services [since owned] -no oil losses, with fvwsh and 110k
Phil 0
Mine uses none at all. I run Mobil 1 semi - synthetic, and have the oil changed every 6 months whether it needs it or not.My Mk2 GTI uses about half a litre every 10k miles! It has 135K on it! Good eh?!!
