psilosimon 8
Thought i'd do a pre-holiday check, pulled the dipstick out, wiped it dry, replaced it then pulled it out and it was still dry. OMG where did that go? I only filled it before xmas.
Daverse 175
check for leaks. has your breather pipe split? burning any oil? oil cooler? mixing water with oil?
psilosimon 8
There is a slight drip from around the oil cooler, nowt really on the drive though, certainly not five litres worth. Not noticed any burning oil - no smoke or smell, water is all ok. that was all sorted when I did the head gasket. Had the valves reground when the head was skimmed.
Ickyketseddie 89
To be fair the dipstick doesn't reach the bottom of the sump so you're not quite looking for 5 litres, but At the same time a significant amount. Have you had a look around underneath, and checked if the bottom of the sump is covered. Maybe it's escaping under pressure only hence not much dripping when parked? Marneus 78
How many miles did you do between checks? My very 1st VR6 liked to drink oil to the tune of 1litre every 700miles or so (it was a '96 & this was back in 2000) so I took it to VW where they told me everything was in spec as the engine specs say 1l of oil for every 1000km is normal.... Funny but the auto I gave now has done 2000 miles since I got it & the oil level hasn't moved.
psilosimon 8
Maybe I need to weld an extra piece on to the dipstick so it reaches further down. It didn't use any oil hardly in four years until I did the head gasket. I have probably done a couple of thousand miles though since I checked. The missus has been using it for work and I have been using the '69 Beetle, which is part why I haven't done a regular check. (mine is far superior in this shitty weather). I topped it up today and it took just over two litres - which ain't so bad. By the way, I went to GSF - £16.15 with 10% Discount, so I went next door to Euro - £13.
Daverse 175
After youve drained the oil completely it will absorb a bit of oil, but not two litres.. is your sump and oil cooler ok?Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
