jamesw6810 80
Morning guys, I'm wanting to fit a set of merc alloys onto my vr6, looking at the ones in question they are 5x112 and 7j. The et is 33 though, obviously I'm going to need adapters for the 5x112 but this doesn't add up anywhere near offset wise!Any thoughts please.
Marneus 78
the smallest adapters you will get are 15mm so that would make an et of 18. 195/45/16 tyres will be fine on a 7" rim but you may need to roll the rear arches depending on how low you are.I'm running 6.5x16 on mine with et22 & 205/45/16 tyres. the rears need rolling & the fronts catch on the inner arch liner but that's it. I'm running -60mm springs though.
jamesw6810 80
Ive got a set of 195/40/16 here in the shed so more than likely they will be going on, the car as it stands isnt too low on the 15 inch soltitudes, not sure how low or if it even is at all too be honest. So the offset on 15mm adaptors will be fine to run? cheers Edited February 11, 2014 by jamesw6810
Marneus 78
As long as it doesn't catch on the arches it will be fine. 195/40's will help a lot too
jamesw6810 80
Thanks mate, next question regarding adapters and merc bolt holes, do the original golf bolts fit through the merc holes into the adapters or is there issues with length, thread etc......Sorry for the dumbass questions but never dealt with adapters before. Marneus 78
When you but the adapters they come with the bolts to bolt up to the hubs. I think merc wheel bolts are the same thread but can't remember. You'll probably be best ordering the correct shorter bolts when you order the adapters. I think standard bolts have 25mm of thread on them but as you're going to be using 15mm thick adapters you'll need shorter bolts.
jamesw6810 80
Can i be a pain and ask for a confirmation on the merc wheel bolt size and the size and thread of bolts ill need to fix to the adaptor, looking at purchasing the wheels today so want to get it right. Thanks for the help so far guys
Marneus 78
On the ones I had the bolts from my Golf fit fine but I think they changed the hole size in the wheels to 14mm at some point so until you get the wheels you won't know but the good thing is the bolts from your golf will fit but will need cutting down for the adapters. It's better to buy new bolts though once you have the adapters so that you know they fit in them. Marneus 78
Glad to help mate. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but as there's so many adapters & so many different Merc wheels it's best to have both to hand before buying bolts.
