Boneybradley's Golf VR6 project

Recommended Posts

Well after owning several Mk3's I decided to join the VR6 brigade and see what the fuss was about and bought a project 1996 model

As bought (pictured with my Mk3 anni), It has Recaro interior, coilovers (wound really low), Full milltek, cone filter and quite chains!

and after owning for a few days she leaked all of her water out which turned out to be the matrix

meaning this work was done

which also brought to my attention the last owner had tried to bodge the matrix with silicon! (I also found chopped abs wires, broken slip ring and several trim parts glued on!!)

I also started looking for parts for my retro project and found these

which needed new tyres to fit without fouling due to the offset and I also fitted a new shock and spring kit, abs sensors with wiring corrected and also fitted an anniversary steering wheel and handbrake (luckily I had spares)

I was hoping all would now be good but she then she started to miss fire when warm! Vag-com showed no issues but gave me an erratic engine temp, so I have now ordered a temp sensor which I am hoping will cure the problems (oh and vag-com now shows an error with a rear abs sensor and a lambda fault (I know it's got a de-cat fitted so will leave that till m.o.t time!))

let's hope I can get it running next week so I can do some other work I have planned? Luckily I own a spares shop so can get my parts at trade (and I share a unit with a garage so labour costs are fairly low)

Looks quite tidy mate, did it cost much? Many miles?

It's done a few miles (about 180'000 but the engine checks out ok and has service history to show it's being looked after, no mention of chains being done but there's not rattle from it). I paid £750 for it which isn't much when you look at the parts value
