wheel arch repairs

Recommended Posts

well i just bought my first VR6 and the first thing i wanted to do was to prepare the wheel arches As they both started to get rust.

Rear is going well. Front, well after removing a small plant pots worth of solidified mud from behind the front arch, started scraping the paint and went straight though the panel. . . Gutted. Got to buy a new panel now.

Any other common rust issues with these vehicle's?

Cheers!

Saw the post about the underside of your car needing the bungs welding. One has already been done by a previous owner. Hideously, looks like liquid metal bucket got knocked over the i side or pan, then melted the sound sponge on it. And accessed it via just cutting the carpet, (badly). Solved the problem though.

I can't solder(spelling?) but I've sealed another one myself via special silicone Glue and some coats over the inside and outside also.

Quick question, did the golf's get a thick black underseal applied when built, as I believe mine might Have been by the look of it, just not over the bungs, around them (logic??)

De rusted 3 wheel arches but the offside front is shot and needs a replacing... Doesn't look bad but rotted through. And derusted both drivers side silicone door seal gaps at the bottom. Just the other 2 to go. Got 2 bubbles under the drivers side rear light, a touch on the bottom bootleg inside and can't see anymore atm.

So I'm getting there, progress! :)
