Marneus 78
Is there a specific product around that would shine all the lenses on my Golf up? I've managed to get all the lights I want for the car, all without damage but they're a bit dull. Is there anything I can do to polish them up? Also my headlights could do with rejuvenating too. Surreyvr6 199
Wet and dry sandpaper, getting finer as you go along, was thinking of doing my indicators and fogs tonightSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bealieboy 1,625
Hi Jamie, for plastic lights you can get a plastic polish called headlight cleaner or similar name that is pretty darn good. I know meguiars have a product available in halfrauds. You can use a cloth and plenty of elbow grease or a mop on a drill. You could try the bay also, that's where I got mine from and it did wonders for my passat headlights, almost bought them back to new, it took hours though! Lukey. 381
I just hit mine with a green pad and menzerna power gloss then final polish with a machine polisher
Marneus 78
Thanks fellas! I'll give the polish a try before I have a go with the wet & dry. Surreyvr6
jamesw6810 80
Youll want to wet and dry first mate, then polish as said above, just use a fine grade id do a couple of passes with 1200 then 1500 then 2000 wet and dry, wipe off then clay bar, then polish with a finishing type of polish pad at around 1200rpm, start with a fine finishing polish dependant on how rough the lights are. Just keep the machine moving, plastic cant take the heat the pad will generate in comparison to paint. The meguiars stuff is like £20 for some sandpaper and a polishing bonnet! its 20p a sheet for wet and dry and no doubt youll already have some polish and a machine, if not get your muscles out with a microfibre and some decent hand polish Edited March 3, 2014 by jamesw6810 Surreyvr6
Marneus 78
I don't have a machine polisher mate, it will all have to be done by hand, in a hotel room when I'm working away lolThey're not in bad condition just a bit dull, just had a look at the meguires stuff & I'll give that a try. jamesw6810 80
Meguiars thing is very pricy mate, tbh id just wet and dry then go at it hand polishing, best hand polish by far is autoglym SRP, easy to work and capable by hand. slightly abrasive but more of a filler, but if the lights arent to bad and just faded and dull then that may bring them up well by hand, the wet and dry will sort the scratches and dull film out anyway. Marneus 78
Cool, I'll nip down to the local factors & get a few sheets of wet n dry. I'll order some of the autoglym stuff online. Cheers mate!
jamesw6810 80
Dont get wet and dry from halfords though mate, its utter poo......more like wet and then fall apart. Just go steady with the wet and dry in the 3 grit levels and keep it nice and wet. The lights should go foggy when youve done it right and then the polish will fetch it back out. For these id try to pick up a decent polish applicator, may need some more oomph than the microfibres can give...
Bealieboy 1,625
Yep, I agree me meguires is expensive, I didn't know you got the sandpaper and a mop with the package. I was too scared to sand my headlights so I just used a cloth and kept on polishing till I could tell the difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
