Marneus 78 Posted March 28, 2014 Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 Is anyone running the AP fixed rate coilover? I'm thinking of getting a set to put on my Golf after the wedding. At £400 they seem good value but can't find much info/reviews on them on a Golf VR6. I've run cheapo coilovers in the past & hated them but can't justify £700+ for KW or the likes. I don't need the dampening adjustability as it's just a road car but I want to be able to set the height right..... Also want it to handle better & the fixed +25% damper rate is a good compromise. bennyk 1,238 Posted March 28, 2014 Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 I've experienced most makes of suspension/coilovers over the years between me, my mates and customers and those things hurt you're bloody back after 10 mins lol! There was just no give and he wasn't running it particularly low or anything. Though I'd like to hear someone else's view of them. Link to post Share on other sites

I ran that car low & they rode almost like standard..... May need to save a bit (lot) more Although I'm sure someone on here must have the AP's on a VR6. Link to post Share on other sites

He says they are fantastic by comparison to cheaper makes, they soak up the undulation of our roads without busting your spine. He has had cheaper coilovers fitted and after driving someone else's car with ap's, he changed within a week. He likes them so much, he recommended ap coilovers to me. MK4motionVR6 41 Posted April 12, 2014 Report Share Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) I've fitted AP's to quite a few golfs both FWD & AWD (4motion) 4 potters & 6 potters, all of which I've had excellent feedback, they're very good value for money & outlast they're competitors.. If your looking for a real slammed look, the only real niggle with them is.. On the VR6 mk4 4motion & R32's, they don't drop low enough unless you remove the adjuster ring on the rear, but this will leave you with no height adjustability on the rear.Also don't forget, if your going for slammed.. On the AWD you'll also need to change out your rear tie arms & upgrade the 4motion front lower wishbones & hubs to r32 or TT 225. Because the lower you go, the more you'll throw out the whole geometry of the steering etc.. On the FWD, you'll need to change your front ARB, as the standard will start rubbing on the drive shafts the lower you go! The above is also applicable to FWD models apart from rear tie arms, as there are none..All that said.. Liam Potts 4 Posted April 15, 2014 Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 I'm running Ap's on my mk2 vr can't fault them for the cost and comfort levels are lush in comparison to the eBay specials If I was being picky then under hard driving they feel a little soggy could do with a little more bound/re bound rating, but you get what you pay for.
