jamesw6810 80
Fellas, was on the hunt for a man with a van who basically could do mobile diagnostics. Found a guy in the nottingham area who basically owns fully licensed VCDS and also another fault code reader and diagnostic machine. He works locally but will travel and came out to me to run a health check on the vr6 yesterday.....£20 flat rate plus anything else for any adaptations etc... Too my mind his business is ideal as he will come to you to read and diagnose codes, run live tests, perform any adaptations on VAG and also diagnose on non VAG. He pitches his business at people who dont know how to use code readers or indeed have the time to diagnose or skills to do so. The idea is brilliant as he takes the hassle away from having to book the car in at a garage, take the garages word for the issue and pay their high diagnostic charges before any work takes place. He wont do any work, its a pure diagnostic service only but does advise on a fix if the diagnostic points directly to it, advises on part numbers and places to buy the part. Basically will arm you with enough info to go to a garage knowing the issue first and a potential cost. All done out of normal garage hours aswell. I rang him and he came to me at 6.30 last night...... All in all a good business model id say and pretty valuable to those with no time and or knowledge to perform the tests themselves. What he will also do, as i ended up chatting for an hour about it, is provide a service to potential car buyers as a sort of pre purchase health check or indeed a pre sale health check and run measures on work pre and post modification Just for info really seems like it couuld be useful in the future. sep 68
90% of garages won't go off other people's diagnostics just so your aware.. a lot will take on what you've said but they will want to diagnose themselves
jamesw6810 80
Yep, thats not the point of his work though, the point is to give people that dont know the opportunity to arm themselves with an idea of the problem and the approximate cost prior to the work being carried out

sep 68
Yeah its good I'm just letting people know they might need to pay diagnostics again by a garage carrying out the work so don't be shocked if they charge for it :-)
overboost 19
I think services like this are guided more towards the DIY enthusiast m8. Gives you far more of an idea than just aimlessly changing parts in the hope of curing a fault. Edited May 11, 2014 by overboost
