havenhand 6
Hi All,Thought I would make a build for this car as I consider it a car that I will probably keep forever. Ill start with a few pictures of previous cars..My 2.0 8v Jetta.. 2.0 bottom end, 1.8 p+p cylinder head, 4-2-1 manifold, 900 carbs, 268 newman camshaft. was very good fun for my first attempt at modifying a car.Mk1 mx5..Mk3 Vr6/Mk2 vr6 build..My Current car..I bought the car from a really good friend about a week after finishing my own mk2 vr6 project car, its a 1991 bright blue metallic OBD1 2.8 vr6, G60 arches, Electric windows, momo team 280 steering wheel, coil overs, full polyurethane bush kit, hydro clutch, corrado front crossmember and fan set up, solid seat front engine mount, amongst a few other cool bits..the day I bought the car..Decided for piece of mind I would do the head gasket as it was weeping slightly from the pulley side, ended up having a skim, pressure test, clean up, new stem seals and new valve guides. Wish id have spent longer trying to get a mk4 metal head gasket and stuck some 264 cams in there that i am now saving for when it was all apart but oh well can come apart again. bought other parts that needed doing like chain guides and chain tensioner bolt and all back together and running sweet again. Then decided the air filter was haggard and I needed a new one, didn't like the old one hanging off the MAF so decided to make ain intake pipe and mod a 1.8T AIT into it and extend my wiring.Shortly after I found some rust that needed attending to above the rubber fuel filler guard, seems to trap loads of rubbish behind it, cut it out and welded a small new plate in..seam sealered and undersealed up and all was good again. Then decided I needed some new wheels as the bbs reps that were on it were pitted, curbed and nasty..bought some 16x8 et30 rota D154s and stuck them on with toyo rubber and some 10mm and 20mm hubcentric spacers and longer bolts to suitengine bay as it stands.. (plastics are off to get painted gloss black)just ordered a short shift of a nice chap on here and have also got a gearbox to gearbox brace coming from seat, plans are to fit some 264 newman cams and see if theres anything I fancy doing after.Probably missed loads from copying images across from other places.thanks for readingLouis Edited June 30, 2014 by havenhand Bealieboy, thesurgeon and daveyboy

havenhand 6
Cheers mate, yeah I've done a few bits and bobs want to try and keep it running as well as it can. going to make up a heat shield for the filter if I can try and stop as much heat getting to it, will keep it updates as I do more jobs on itCheers Louis
havenhand 6
Small update on this..ordered a gearbox to gearbox mount brace from seat... normally used for the cable change conversion. sure you can buy them without clutch cable tab but couldn't find a part number on vagcat. Found out there obsolete to order new so the guy at seat had one that tps London had in stock sent up to Sheffield. winner.Ended up running into a small problem, car wouldn't go into second gear all the way, ended up having to cut the cable change bolt down to sit flush with the bottom of where it sits captive and then file a good 8mm off the top of the metal part where the clutch cable fits, all clears and gear change back how it should be.Also my short shifter came thanks to besters on here (cheers dude), going to get the shifter tower dropped this weekend and get the short shifter in its place.thanksLouis
havenhand 6
Spent an hour on the car this afternoon and got my short shifter kit fitted, wasn't sure how this would go and had a go according to what the guide said, easy peasy job just had to file a tiny bit out of the car to slide the main pin out, gear shift feels along more positive and a lot shorter! winner winner.. [ tiny bit I had to file.. noting major and hardly noticeable.. for the sake of 55 quid id highly recommend one... Also bought a genuine centre console for the electric windows as mine had a rubbish aftermarket panel bolted in, re wired all the windows which was a small job and modified the console near the shifter so it fitted easier over the tower, bish bash bosh all sorted..[URL=http://s916.photobucket.com/user/louismop1/media/7646207B-DC58-46F7-B50D-0FF8A2EF8835_zpsne1ho9qj.jpg.html] cheers Louis Edited July 17, 2014 by havenhand
havenhand 6
Small updateThe mk3 clocks in the car are a pretty naff fit and kept falling out of place behind the dash and just generally being a nuisance.Wrapped some loom tape neatly round the right had side to stop the clocks falling out then tactically cable tied the other side in to stop that side moving about, not the prettiest fix but the clocks sit a lot more central and don't fall out anymore!Forgot to take a picture with the front dash plastic back on, actually started the job to replace a blown bulb but thought I may aswell get the clocks sat the best I can.Cheers louis
DanChave 98
Great work on this bud! Keep it up does Besters make and sell short shift kits? I'm new to the forum, but a short shifter is definitely on the list!
