six appeal 53
Hi all,Looking to get my head overhauled after suspected head gasket failure, was just going to get it skimmed but not knowing history of my spare head thought best to get it overhauled as well. wondering who you've used/recommend to overhaul/recondition the head whilst it's off. Not really looking to modify it as had one on a previous VR and for the money wasn't impressed (car felt worse!)Also what head gasket manufacturer are you guys recommending? Where's best to buy? Prices etc? Thanks in advance,Simon.
daveyboy 897
Victor rienz head gasket mate. You can get them on ebay for about £45 six appeal, Surreyvr6 and VR6Pete
VR6Pete 1,455
Hey up Simon. Stealth racing built me a new engine a few weeks ago, including a new head, new guides, valves, seals, lifters and schimmel cams up top, not cheap but well worth it, especially on anything above 80k on the clock! six appeal
six appeal 53
Cheers Pete, have already been in touch with Vince although I don't want to go crazy money wise as already have two other engine builds in progress, building FI engines for both the Mk2 and the Mk3. This is just a stop gap engine to get the car back on the road (I've had mk3 sorn over 5 years now!)Thanks Daveyboy, would you recommend getting the Victor Rienz head bolts too advertised on there or are the standard Febi etc. ones ok? Is there a way to check its definitely a V Rienz gasket as I have one I got years ago and it may well already be the right one! Thanks for all the info guys, I've forgotten a lot more than I remember about VRs in the 5 or so years I've taken out of the "scene" But it'll be good to be back! I think I was originally a very low number original VR6oc member as been on here from pretty much the start! For those of you interested the cars (mk2 VR supercharged and my Mk3) are on my Instagram: SixAppeal.Simon. abvsean 32
use a mk4 head gasket for alittle bit more compression
Lukey. 381
With the mls gasket you really have to make sure your mating surfaces are über flat and parallel and you went OCD on the cleaning and scraping if you didn't get them skimmed to clean up
six appeal 53
I've ended up going for a full new forged bottom end now with low comp. JE Pistons etc..... APR head bolts and a fully refurbed head, so mating surfaces are fully re-faced on block and head. Whats the advantage of the Mk4 head gasket over the Victor Reinz Mk3 one? I'm running a high spec charger and shrick on the Mk3 so not really sure i need to run more compression as its a low compression piston set etc.... Thanks again for all the input, I feel like a newbie all over again! Simon. VR6Pete
Lukey. 381
The advantage is half a point more cimpression six appeal
