McPikie 3
So, whilst perusing the engine bay, I noticed this is looking a little worse for wear, probably from the amount of times I swap my airbox for a cone filter and back again. Can I just bin it off and vent to atmosphere? Or do I need some sort of weird catch tank set up?
CustomJ 2
There is a FAQ for this annoying part:http://www.vr6oc.com/forum/topic/19232-obd2-pcv-inlet-valve-common-fault-info-4-u/#entry178782But I think you will fail the MOT with it breathing to air. You can put in a small filter, but you need to block the inlet side. -J
Lukey. 381
It's supposed to be a closed system that recirculates the air from the crankcase, as the maf has already accounted for it in the Ecu fuelling calculations etc. isobarboy
isobarboy 25
Wouldn't have thought the ecu being one step ahead and thinking about those emissions noticed mine doesn't even have a clamp on it. Loose as hell. Curse the last owner! Handy post this was so cheers McPikie & Lukey
McPikie 3
I was thinking of a catch can with a breather on it
Lukey. 381
If your going for a catch can you could just put another hose to the throttle body hose and have it sealed properly MJ Vr6
Surreyvr6 199
Mine failed it's mot last time on this, my mot'er bodged it up with some hosing to get it through its retest and I got a replacement Pcv off vwpartsinternational Sent from your mums iPhone using Tapatalk
wardycatt 7
I replaced my faulty PCV with a catch can, but then ditched that and went back to the PCV. Therefore I'd recommend replacing the PCV with a new one - it will probably outlive the car and doesn't have to be periodically emptied. It's also the way VW intended your car to be, and there's no performance upgrade to be gained from the catch can. If you're venting to atmosphere / using a catch can (with no breather) then I think you need to block the skinny breather pipe going into the top of the PCV or you'll get a rough idle. No idea what impact it has on MOT, but my advice is buy a new PCV if possible.
Jimjon 28
Have just fitted a catch can but not started or used car, haven't even got the engine in yet, interesting to hear you went back to the PCV instead. Any reasons?
