Check the rubber hoses that go from the the fuel lines (near the brake servo) to the fuel rail at the front of the engine. The rubber hoses often perish and crack at the ends, allowing the pressurised fuel to escape.

With the engine running, you should be able to see wetness (and smell petrol) around the end of the offending hose, if this is your problem.

-rubber vacuum hoses that go from TB to carbon cannister

-have you overfilled it? you can get vr's to leak out the tank vent hose if you try cramming too much fuel in (not that i've done this or anything!)

i had a real bad petrol smell,if its real strong in the boot where the fuel pump is (underneath the round plate in boot) check the hoses but mine turned out that the 'o' ring that seals the fuel pump to the fuel tank had slipped,ask your mechanic to check that,good luck
