alex williams 20
Not the tv program from ages ago.... but in 5th at 2000rpm im only doing 30 miles an hour. Is this right? Because the gearing seems waaaay too short on my car. Seems it would never reach the top speed with that gearing. Is this correct, or does it have a wrong gearbox? Many thanks
Mk3highline 287
most likely if the Rev counter is right you may have a shorter final drive? You can probably get good money for it When you get a standard box the car will feel a bit slower
ssaunders 199
hi, i have fiddled with my ratios and found this XLS very helpful, you can play around with ratios FD's etc and it gives a fairly accurate results.http://vwtechnic.com/Technic/VWGearboxRatios.xlswhen i had my 3.68 i found that i was doing 80mph @ 4K rpm, diesel 5th brought it back to near standard 80mph just over 3K rpm.you can also check the code on the gearbox case but this wont tell you if the internals have been swapped. the XL sheet gives you the codes as wellhope this helps, steve
alex williams 20
Yea the car is stupidly quick to the red line in all gears! So it could be the final drive. 4th tops out at about 80mph. And im doing 80mph at about 5600rpm in 5th. Which will be great for the track day ive got for June, but shit(er) mpg on the roads.
