Short runner or not?

As the title says, im building a turbod vr and what are the ebay short runner manifolds like? shall i buy one as its only another 2/300 more and should help make the piping tidyer? Yay or nay?

I went on the German ebay.de to take a look around and they do a custom cast inlet for around £200 I think.. have a mooch around but I think they are around that

I bought mine off turbo parts.de, it has a bend down on the end so really easy to plumb up, here is a picture.

yeah I've seen these for sale and wondered what they're like. makes sense like that. they're cast aren't they? are you running the coolant feed to the throttle body or laughed it off?

Quality is good, a well made item if a little pricey.  Throttle body has no coolant feed.

That's for a 24V/R32 - is the op's a 12V or 24V?

You can also get a VR6 24V specific one similar to the one pictured but with the throttle body edge straight instead of pointing downwards somewhere on the net.

I take it the ports on a 24 valve are different to a 12 then. Apart from schimmel manifold what ebay jobs are good. I see theres a ta technics manifold and the only dealings with ta technics ive had was fitting the worst coilovers ive ever seen to a mates polo.

Also a little of subject but when a vr is turboed do you need to fit a valve to the hose that goes to the brake servo from the manifold so the servo dosnt see boost?

The Brake Servo vac line already has a one way valve in it, but ForgeMotorsport sell an uprated one if that takes your fancy.  I never had any issues in my VRT with the standard arrangements.

 

I don't like the ebay short runners personally, especially the ones with a bit of 3" tube welded onto stock runners.  Avoid.  You want something with a decent plenum size and ideally a new casting so that you don't get any warped runners (from welding heat) causing leaking gaskets.
