paul.s.evans.127 6
Just picked my 4motion up tonight and the ESP light is on permanent Been reading up on this and looks expensive ! Read another thread saying that if the steering wheel is not straight when the wheels are then this could be the cause! My steering wheel isn't centered so could this be the fault? c00k 435
Plus vag-com or a digsmostic machine in and see if you get any error codes. Then check error codes on internet.
Swivelonit 119
My 4 motion had the ESP light on too, I replaced the sensors behind the dash and did the steering wheel angle sensor reset but the light stayed on. I searched the internet for a solution and found that the ESP can be coded out leaving the ABS to work as it should. Here is a LINK to coding out the ESP with VCDS.
CALICO 130
You'll need to do this anyway if you decide to fit a quick rack like I will be doing from an R32 or Vrs or cupra r. It could just need a 4 wheel alignment to get it all back to standard settings
paul.s.evans.127 6
Cheers guys I'll try both!
paul.s.evans.127 6
Car tracks perfect on the road, like I said steering wheel is 15/20degrees out and she wheel spins out of corners too!
Swivelonit 119
You have a 4 motion that wheel spins out of corners, your ESP light could be linked to wheel speed sensor or a Haldex issue, I have never got my 4 motion to wheel spin except on wet grass. Your car needs to be scanned with VCDS to pinpoint the ESP issue.
paul.s.evans.127 6
Do I need to go to vw for diagnostic or can any garage do it?
Swivelonit 119
Any garage can run a scan, or you can ask on here if anybody has VCDS who live in your area they may well scan your car for you. Where do you live?

Swivelonit 119
Reset the codes and see which ones come back. Steering angle sensor, this will need checking to see if it sends a signal, if it does then a simple reset of that can be done, I did mine with the steering wheel off, wheels facing straight and turned the sensor wheel until a zero was present on the VCDS software, sorted it out. Locking module I wouldn't worry about. 65535 error can be displayed in many areas, it is present on my car showing a Haldex issue, however everything works fine, here is an explanation from Ross Tech. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/65535
paul.s.evans.127 6
Thanks for that, I reset the codes and they all came back, got my eye on an angle sensor on eBay
Swivelonit 119
There will be nothing wrong with your sensor, when you strip the column down and take your steering wheel off you can make the sensor turn with your finger, hooked up the VCDS you can turn it until it shows zero, refit everything and you have sorted the issue. Or you can do it this way http://www.r32oc.com/topic/76146-mk4-steering-angle-sensor-g85-fixed/
paul.s.evans.127 6
Was told the ribbon cable may be snapped as the wheel was 20degree off ctr and on full lock may have overstretched it?
Swivelonit 119
iirc, there is a wheel that runs against the column, simply rotate it around until the reading is correct, vids will measure the output of the sensor to confirm it works. Contact ilexa in Devon and treat yourself to VCDS
paul.s.evans.127 6
Turns out there is no signal whatsoever from the sensor!
