Cooz93 66
So finally at the stage where it's time to remove the engine. Never done anything like this before, except a gear box on a mk2 golf. So thought I'd ask if there are any tips you guys have? Any snags you've came across when removing an engine? Do feel like a bit of an amateur asking but feel the only way to learn is to give it a go!
Mk3highline 287
Pretty easy once the front end is offI took engine and box out together daveyboy
VR6CABBS 1,311
When removing the the wires and hoses your probably best to label everything with a bit of tape or take photos. Will be ten times easier to re-fit if everything's marked up. bennyk, daveyboy, Bealieboy and 2 others

bennyk 1,238
sounds like you've been watching wheeler dealers cabbs! No he can't have because he would also have said to wear a short sleeved t-shirt over the top of a long sleeved one and have stupid multicoloured floppy hairOh and to lie about how much everything cost.......... hold on we all do that already! Bealieboy 1,625
Ben, no, you can buy fecked up t-shirts like that and cabbs has one for each day of the week! Goodness knows what his hair would look like if he actually had any! Edited June 12, 2015 by Bealieboy daveyboy and bennyk
Cooz93 66
Guess I should be watching some wheeler dealers.. Aren't the doing a corrado vr6 soon? Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Actually, knowing cabbs attention to detail, I wouldn't mind putting a time lapse camera on an engine change that he took on. Now that could make some entertaining "you've been framed" style TV! Good luck with yours cooz, should be like child's play for you by the looks of your brakes thread! Cooz93 66
Thanks Bealieboy. Decided I'm converting to obd2 before I remove the engine so I know it all works before I start taking it to bits. Wish me luck! Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
That's a good idea cooz. You know about the potential to run with a rado inlet and TB on obd1? Good for horses. Are you coil pack obd1 or dizzy?
Cooz93 66
I've sourced a kit that includes a 2.9 synchro manifold which I'm told is better flowing than the standard obd1 inlet(similar to rads?) but will also work with the obd2 conversion.. Well I hope so haha. Dizzy obd1, converting to obd2 coil pack:) VR6CABBS and Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Cool! I now embarrassingly recall your other post. Should be a great upgrade, particularly with obd2! Cooz93
Cooz93 66
I hope so mate. Praying everything goes smooth, never been a fan of electrics/wiring!
Bealieboy 1,625
It should be mostly, if not all plug and play shouldn't it? Edited June 13, 2015 by Bealieboy
Cooz93 66
That's what I'm hoping. Can only really find threads on people doing it with corrado. But have read it's easier on the golf. Have you got a coilpack vr6? Was wondering how the coil pack itself is mounted.. Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Yeah, mines a coil pack golf. The pack is mounted on the right side of the head.
Cooz93 66
Is it on some sort of 'L' bracket or are there bolts that go straight through and secure it? Might be a simple question but I've only ever seen my dizzy vr6 haha
Bealieboy 1,625
Bolts go straight through the pack and into the head.
Cooz93 66
Ah nice one. Cheers! All the bits should be arriving this week so will update with my progress

When's your series being aired Jonathan?? LolHahahaha. Being in the trade for many years squealieboy I've changed many a engine. Don't get me wrong I've dropped some right clangers but dare I say I've broke less than you with them honey monsters hands you have. Haha. I guess this is the very reason the NOTHELLE is going into The Phirm to have many a thousand spend on the rebuild. Lmao. But back on topic, you'll be just fine Cooz with you patients and knowledge. I look forward to seeing your build thread once complete pal. Cooz93, daveyboy and Bealieboy
