martingraham 21
Hi all. I'm am thinking ahead into the future. I know one day my mk3 vr6 will eventually be too full of rust and was thinking that it's the engine that my love is with and would love to put it into a kit car (Westfield or tiger racing, that kind of car). My question is, has it been done? Is it worth doing just to keep my fave engine running
Reaperx 181
There is a guy on here who put one in a buggy frame. Not sure about the Westfield or caterham have seen a few close up and it looked tight in there with a 4pot. But I have seen a few of Dax built cars running v8s might be worth looking into. Think your going to have look more into the cobra style of body as apposed to the lotus seven style. Edited July 8, 2015 by Reaperx
martingraham 21
Mmmmm cobra style. Now you have me thinking
Vag-hag 147
what gearbox could be used? I think you would be ok for space as there are caterham shaped kits with bmw 6s from e46 m3 and I've seen rover v8s in them too
Reaperx 181
I'm sure you could find some gearbox to fit maybe an adapted bmw one. I may have to ask the gearbox specialist we use at work. I always wanted to build my own kit car the ridiculous power to weight ratio really has my interest. Anything is possible with the right amount of money and know how. martingraham 21
Exactly. Just throw money at it til it works. I would like to keep it simple and keep the stock box with it. If a rover v8 can fit in then a vr6 should.
Reaperx 181
Yeah but the engine will be mounted length ways and rwd. Might be bit pushed for room with standard box and fwd setup Bealieboy
