reynolds9000 26
I have been trying to find a definitive answer before I buy parts I may not need. I suspect the fan control module and my auxiliary water pump is shot. the auxiliary coolant pump is supposed to turn on when ignition is turned "on" as well as run 10 minutes after the car is turned off. my aux pump does not come on, ever. When I jump it directly to the battery nothing happens, leading me to think the pump is not working. Am I wrong? following the Bentleys instructions on jumping the pins on the yellow coolant temperature sensor connector the fans as well as the auxiliary water pump should come on. when I jump the specified pins, absolutely nothing happens. Using a multimeter I am only getting 3.8 volts to the yellow connector and I am only getting 3.8 volts from the brown 4 prong coolant sensor connector also. both should have 12 volts as far as I know. removing the connector for the thermoswitch on the radiator itself and jumping the wires, only stage 1 fans turn on. I should be able to activate stage two also but nothing happens. There is 0 volts at the wire for stage 2 fans. when removing the main fan motor connector and jumping the fan motor directly from the car battery, I can activate all three fan stages. I have ruled out the fan motor being faulty. when I turn on the air conditioning, the stage three fans should turn on, mine do not turn on at all. a/c is fully functioning but fans never come on when switched on. my main question: does the fan control module feed power to the coolant temperature sensor plugs? would a faulty fan control module be causing my issues? I'm fairly certain my auxiliary water pump is original with 160k miles. Should I replace it since it does not respond to 12v's?
