Expensive! And while your there you may aswell change clutch/flywheel. I rang vw for a time on the job and they said 27 hours labour, think they do it with engine out. There labour rate was around 100 pound per hour also n then parts on top. I did mine myself in 19 hohrs without taking engine out, using genuine parts and changing my flywheel and clutch i spent arout 600 pound just on parts and my friend got my discount on parts as he works at audi.

100/hour? Wow that's a lot. It is a big job as you have to remove gearbox. It can be done with engine still in the car but much easier when it's out. We have a guide in our club members guides for replacing timing chains, but as others have said theres a few other jobs that's worth considering whilst doing this too
