Described as the most powerful SUV with a diesel engine in the world, the new SQ7 is powered by a newly-developed 4.0-liter TDI, equipped with first electric powered compressor (EPC) fitted in a production vehicle. Placed in the air path downstream of the intercooler, close to the engine the EPC strongly supports the eight-cylinder turbodiesel unit when starting off and during low rpms to eliminate the turbo lag. It is driven by an electric motor with compressor wheel spins that spins up to 70,000 rpm and has a maximum power of 7 kW. In order to meet all that power, the electrical subsystem features 48‑volt lithium-ion battery located beneath the trunk with nominal energy content of 470 watt-hours and a peak output of up to 13 kilowatts. A DC/DC converter connects the 48‑volt and 12‑volt electrical systems. Thus equipped the engine generates 435 PS (320 kW) and an amazing 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque available between 1000 – 3250 rpm.

2017-Audi-SQ7-TDI-03-1024x724.jpg Thanks to these characteristics of the powertrain the Audi SQ7 TDI sprints from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically-limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). The eight-speed tiptronic transmission has been specially redesigned in order to change gears faster. Power output is channeled to a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system along with the with a self-locking central differential. Aside all that power output, the new 4.0 TDI V8 remains economical and in the NEDC, it consumes 7.4 lt/100 km (31.8 mpg US) while emitting 194 g/km of CO2.
The model rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 285/45 tires, with options up to 22 inches from the quattro GmbH program. LED headlights are standard, while at an additional cost buyers will be able to opt for Matrix LED lamps. The SQ7 TDI will be optionally available with a driving dynamics package consisting of all-wheel steering, electromechanical active roll stabilization and sport differential. The new SQ7 TDI has a drag coefficient of 0.34 and is also the lightest model in its segment.
European customers can order the Audi SQ7 TDI at the beginning of this spring. The base price in Germany starts from €89,900.
