VR6Pete 1,455
The car is a 2006 Z06 Corvette, modified by Genovation Cars, a company that engineers battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Called the Genovation eXtreme Electric (GXE), the all-electric Corvette on February 23, 2016 at NASA’s Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral, Florida broke the speed record registering a 186.8 mph (300 km/h). The record-setting run was confirmed and certified by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA), beating the previous record of 177 mph (284 km/h). GXE instead of the 7.0-liter LS7 engine under the hood has many batteries and electric motors that produce over 700 hp and 813 Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in exactly 3 seconds. This high-speed, high-performance all-electric Corvette during normal driving has a range of 130 miles (209 km) on a single charge. It also has a near 50/50 weight distribution and optimized low center of gravity, while perhaps the coolest thing is the fact that still uses a manual transmission. But It seems that this record will not last long, because the Croatian company Rimac recently introduced a supercharged all-electric model, the Concept S capable of hitting 227 mph (365 km/h).
