Matty's Golf mk4 R32 Turbo 4 motion

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been a member on here now for over 8 years now.

I have learned lots from different members on here, from my first supercharger build to my last turbo build this site has been an invaluable source of information.

My intention has always been to write a build thread to help inspire others as I have been inspired from reading many build threads on here.

Anyway here is my project car.

Its a 2000 W reg 2.8 24v 4 motion with 18x8J Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's

With plans for big power in the future I decided to upgrade the seats to save weight and help hold me in on the twisties.

Next up was coilovers. This time I decided that I wanted the car to handle as well as look good so I went for Gaz Gold height, damper and rebound adjustable.

And now for the turbo parts.

Crank girdle to help hold it all together.

The engine is now fully built so I will add the build photo's shortly.

Time to start wiring this lot together. After hours and hours starting to make sense of it. This is my version of a millspec consentric twist.

Hi all, I have been a member on here now for over 8 years now. I have learned lots from different members on here, from my first supercharger build to my last turbo build this site has been

Turbo manifold construction in progress.

I then sourced a Golf mk4 R32 engine block as the mk5 BUB engine im using has a cast crank that will not cope with the planned power output.

IMG_0903.JPG

The BUB block was then sent off to be honed from 84mm to 84.5 as cylinder no 3 had a score mark from detonation in its past supercharged life, despite only having done 34,000 miles.

IMG_1066.JPG

IMG_1083.JPG

I then test fitted the crank girdle, only to find that it would not sit level due to a bit of exess casting on one of the main caps

IMG_1085.JPG

The cap was soon ground down and we where back in business.

IMG_1245 (1).JPG

VW R36 main bearing arrived not the most exiting component but vital never less.

IMG_1522 (1).JPG

Head arrived back from NG Motorsports having been CNC ported and fitted with Supertech valves and springs

IMG_1639 (1).JPG

As Christmas came it was time to separate the forged crank from the mk4 block. Obviously the conservatory was the only sensible place for this.

IMG_1647.JPG

BUB block was prepared for the crank.

IMG_1669.JPG

Crank, girdle and Spturbo stage 2 rods were then fitted.

IMG_1640 (1).JPG

Many cups of coffee later the head was ready to go on.

IMG_1642.JPG

Even the combustion chambers have been CNC'd to ensure the highly pressurised charge combusts properly.

IMG_1673 (1).JPG

Nice new head gasket fitted.

IMG_1678 (2).JPG

ARP2000 10mm head bolts fitted.

Head and block finally married.

IMG_1698.JPG

Then the engine was timed using VVT Delete SPturbo adjustable cam pulley's.

Running Haltech as it is feature rich and user friendly.

I plan on wiring and mapping the whole thing my self and felt Haltech offers the best customer support around.

There is no use for flex fuel in our country as E85 is not available at the pumps, so contestant E85/ C85 from VP on Sunoco is the only option, rendering flex fuel pointless.

I plan on having multiple maps for pump fuel, C85 and Q16.

There is E85 in Wales near me! Has been for good few years. You can get it in any morrisons station in Wales I think, and I know a few guys who already run flex fuel sensors.

Maybe not in England, but there is in Wales. :)

As I looked in to haltech for my supercharged one, and running it on E85 as I can get it from a petrol station 10mins from my house, and I was going to run flex fuel sensor, I may still go this route in the future.

Plus yes it does have a lot of features, and all the bells and whistles.

To prove it look at link below:

Well, you have me well jealous there. The prices of VP & Sunoco E85 are ridiculous.

Thanks for the gratuitous engine porn!

what you doing gearbox wise? I have read the 32 box can be a little weak when running big power.

good luck

steve

You are correct, the R32 gearbox casing is a weak point at least on the mk4 anyway. I'm planning on using a DRP out of an early 2.8 4 motion as out of all the 02M's it has the strongest casing. For now I will just add more casing support and a LSD, but in the future when I turn it up I will be looking to a dog gear kit from Don Octane/ Monster Performance; those guys are putting down over 1200bhp using an 02M with dog gears.

I did at first plan on covering it to 06A MQ500 like used in the TTRS & Tiguan as some people are running up to 1100nm on standard gearboxes, but as my car has progressed I have come to the conclusion that using it daily is not realistic and so full dog box with sequential shifter it is.
