i have heard bad things about schrick manifolds and also good things but for the price they are and wats involved i am not going to be buying one i have sourced a well ported inlets and a uprated throttle body so will be fitting that, a lad i know fitted his schrick and it did nothing appaerntly so i'd rather use std stuff ported so i know it will work... just my 2pence worth :P

perhaps the lad had it fitted upside down if he didnt notice any difference. or maybe it just wasnt mapped properly. mine gave me nearly 40lbs off torque more at 3-4k revs than standard. not to be sniffed at in most peoples eyes. they are a lot of money to buy but i feel mine was worth it. some have sold theirs on to fund chargers, and some sell them after selling their cars as they are worth a lot of extra pennies even s/h. thats why you sometimes see an influx of them for sale! ;)

ported and polished stuuf is all well and good but unless you have it mapped for the extra fuel/air being applied then it will all be a waste of time and effort long term. the car will bog down and over fuel or run lean depending on the state of tune! get ourself along to bvf on 2/3 july(next weekend) and come have alook at mine if you wanna see what they're like!

Nothing? Doesnt sound right at all that.... was the butterly operating correctly? there are a percentage of the schricks that have suffered a "sticky" flap at the switch over point, this would make it seem quite flat after 3,500 RPM. I noticed a huge gain as soon as it was fitted (after the sticky flap was fixed that was) even more noticable after the remap. A well recommended mod indeed.

When I bought my VR, it already had the Schrick but the butterfly had seized due to a vacuum hose having come off some time before, yet it still pulled more strongly than a standard VR (it is chipped too). Once I sorted out the butterfly it's even better.

It is a relatively subtle mod though -if you just in and boot it up an empty road you might be a bit disappointed as the top end power isn't much different, but in everyday use, the power is way more usable as it comes in so much sooner!

when i was looking to buy a vr a drove a few standard 1`s i was impressed then i went down to pick up the 1 i bought and its schricked up to the max, manifold, cams. and the difference was incredible, the mid range power and torque is crazy. am so glad i held off and went for the modified 1. otherwise i`d of had to spend a fortune.

The Schrick isn't bad....it doesn't give you more torque per se, it moves the available torque further town the rev range....some engines see a small increase in peak torque, but it was never meant to be a mod for giving big power gains, but rather to remove the sub-4000rpm flatness.

Having tried the schrick and cams etc, the same money would be better spent on the transmission instead imo. Dropping the final drive to 3.68 gives the same effect as the Shrick and you can also add a quaife diff....which really takes the handling to a new dimension,

I love the big extra spread of power on my Golf3 with the schrick. It just where I need it most for my type of driving with slightly increased torque at the low end but a BIG increase between about 2750 and 4000 where the switch over occurs. I guess I got an increase of about 20BHP through the range with a massive hike in torque or about 40ftlb in the mid range. For most average driving thats where you need it. Peak torque in top equates to about 80mph so it means effortless cruising on motorways.

One thing though, before I had the top end rebuild and cam chains done I could notice the inlet flap changeover in the VSI and the power delivery was a little strange sometimes. Now the chains are done its a different car. In order of things got done, I went for Chip and Throttle body mod first, then shocks, then big valves, then Schrick. Opted not to get the cams as that affects low down torque and then finally the Milltek CAT back jobby just recently. It drives very nicely now thank you. I would love a charger but thats another level of pocket which I don't have (yet!)

Lastly I don't run an induction kit as they make alot of noise and I am usnure of the real benefits. I do however run a K&N filter in the standard airbox.
