eViL 0
Right then.. The charger's K&N filter was fitted on the end of a 1.5 foot long pipe, so that the air flow meter wasn't receiving any 'air return' and getting all confused. Unfortunately, the pipe has started leaking, and now when it rains, water is getting sucked in.. I'm concerned that too much pooe is gonna get chucked into the throttle body from behind the filter (where the leak is) I'd like to get rid of the pipe all together, however I need to somehow Bypass the Air Flow meter.. Would it be viable to put the air flow meter in a pipe that feeds into the filter rather than feeding FROM the filter? Anybody even know what I'm on about?
dubloke 4
think you need to have the afm after the filter as it sends a signal to the ecu regarding the amount of air intake to amount of fuel delivered! if it was in front of filter it may get even more confused. but i could be wrong! binliner 0
yeah I think the afm needs to be after the filter and on early cars before the charger... cant you just get a new pipe or hose instead?
eViL 0
Trouble is.. somewhere along the line the same thing'll happen again.. I might get some pipe fabricated for it instead..
mightyvr6 0
Is it the flexible intake pipe which is leaking?
eViL 0
indeed it is.. I shortened it now anyway.. Moved the MAF sensor closer to the charger.. so we'll see.Only OBD1's have this problem because of the 3 pin air flow sensor..
mightyvr6 0
Is the flexible pipe rubber? was it leaking because of rubbing on the bodywork? Don't get the maf too close to the inlet or you'll run into problems.
simey 0
eVIL, beware the air flow meter is important for telling the ecu how much petrol to mix with air.Its expensive to replace Best bet is to replace the broken pipe.
madmonkee 0
also if you used the oil for the K+N it normally coats the MAF sensor. Made me m8s astra coup turbo run real rich at top end. New MAF sensor no problems.
eViL 0
WEll I drove to work and it's back to square one..I need to find a way of keeping the MAF well away from the re-cirulated air from the charger that will require no adjusting, looking after ect ect.. dubloke 4
speak to vince adam. he must be able to help in some way, being the man in the know that we all know! if you see what i mean!
eViL 0
heh - welcome to my world of pain...!Whatdya mean Jules? Having the same problem? The long feeder pipe was working, but as soon as it started leaking all manner of cack and water was getting into it.. I'm suprised it's not done more damage..
mightyvr6 0
Why was it leaking though? Has it been rubbing? Have you got the plastic splash guard under the wing? Just have to replace the pipe.
jcorallo 0
Yep - just replace the pipe.I dont understand why you are not doing this? What wrong with it the way it was meant to be?Jules
jcorallo 0
oh - and what I meant ("world of pain") was that you cant just move the MAF about the place and expect it all to still work....!
eViL 0
I don't want the damn pipe. It's a pain in my ass..

mightyvr6 0
you have to have it to make it run properly. Should be fine if everything is well clamped and the pipe is ziptied to prevent rubbing.
VRmonster 1
ill supply you with a solution, ill take the pipe... and the charger, and the chip too, and give you my standard intake and ecu in return lol...
eViL 0
Tempting.. but alas.. no.Damn charger shoulda come with a nice shiny stainless steel feed in the first place damnit!
VRmonster 1
go to your nearest powerflow or something, and ask em to make one up... should be no problem for em.
eViL 0
I moved the air-flow meter closer to the charger, however.. the re-circulated boost was confusing it.. causing the car to cough, splutter and stall occasionally.I disconnected the idle stabliser valve and et voila! It works fine.. so far. Even feels much smoother and faster on boost now.Only problem is.. car will be cack when it's cold. So I'm going to fit a switch to the idle valve so I can switch it off once warm.
