SW VR6 0
Hi,I'm thinking of getting a Passat 1.8 20V Turbo Sport as a second car / daily driver. Saw a nice clean example in a garage today - 68k, full VW history, 2 previous owners, recent cam belt etc., so I it took it for a test drive.Has anyone driven one? I thought it felt slow, but I couldn't work out if it was just the fact that I have been used to the power of my VR.Should the turbo give a pronounced surge at the top end? If so, what rev range? I wasn't expecting earth-shattering performance, but I did think I would feel a bit more from 150bhp and 0-60 in 8.6s.I supose I really need to test drive another one and see what that's like. The 0-60 times are only approx 1.6s apart, but it felt very different.Any words of wisdom?PS: Is there an easy way to test wehther or not the turbo is working properly? I guess diagnostics tests would be in order?
Eat this 2
i would expect a turbo to kick at mid revs then tail off a bit at higher revs although iv never had a turbo so may be talkin from my arse hehe
MrBen 0
A stock 1.8T doesn't have a major kick, though it does gather pace as you go up the revs. But they do feel gutless really compared to a VR!
VRmonster 1
its in a passat tho. so you wont feel the 1.8 20vT power. the cars just too heavy. if you were sat in a golf you would see the difference in weight. if anyone has driven a golf vr and a vento vr they will understand what i mean.still a nice car but not good if your after a nippy runaround. mark@vagworx 0
As Monster says, the passat is just too heavy to feel the 20vt. The 1.8T is a great engine, loads of mid range punch, but with most turbocharged engines, power tails of towards the top of the rev range.A chip would sort the power out, and at least get the pasat of par with your VR.
