Ldub_Mk1Vdub 0
So I recently picked up a 93 Passat with a vr6 distributor engine. The thing only wants to fire on 2 holes, not all six. It has new dizzy, plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor, verified power to ecm and whatnot. It does run, so that rules out a lot of the trivial things but it will only run on two cylinders, the coil acts like its firing like it should, I'm getting far more pulses to the cap than I'm getting out of it. It doesn't make any difference whether or not the hall sensor is plugged in at the dizzy, it doesn't change the way it runs at all. Any Ideas???
senorfancypants 0
How about timing? I had a 96 passat that jumped because of the main guide breaking. I now have a late 93 passat with a coilpack instead of a distributor. I'd honestly pull the intake and valve cover to check your timing marks. Volkswagen doesn't have a recommendation on when to do timing. But if it's over 100k, I'd look into it.
Ldub_Mk1Vdub 0
I verified the timing since I’ve had it. It’s dead on time. The guy who had it before had it done about 20k miles ago but I double checked to be sure. I have a few different caps and rotors for it, they all behave the same.
senorfancypants 0
Hmm. Then I'd honestly do a compression test and a fuel pressure test. Maybe those injectors are gummed up
Ldub_Mk1Vdub 0
Compression on all cylinders is over 130 dry. Leak down on all cylinders tested within spec. Pulled all of the injectors and flow tested them and got good results.
Ldub_Mk1Vdub 0
So I pulled the coil HT lead and threw a spark plug in it, grounded it and cranked her over. Spark is pretty weak and orange looking. Not the bright snappy blue I expected. Anyone got an early 93 VR6 distributor coil they want to sell?
