Steveo 0
I've never owned a VR6 before or even spent this much on a car, hence why I get a little paranoid about noises. So my questions are,Is it normal to hear the water bubbling after switching the engine off? Even during normal driving I can hear it inside the car. Also is it normal for there to be vibrating in the coil after the engine is switched off, its the round black coil at the back right top of the engine. Its almost like theres a fan inside going round. It stops after a while but I need my mind putting a ease.I probably sound like a right tit, but I want to look aftr this one so thanks for any helpSteve
mightyvr6 0
It's not normal imo. The noise your hearing could be the aux water pump rather than the coil which is located in the place you describe and can get noisy with age. Does the car run hot or overheat?
Steveo 0
No thats the one thing I've been keeping an eye on. Drove the car for more than two hours the other night temp stayed at normal, and oil temp never rose above 94. Ill take some pics over the weekend and point to the part in question. Fingers crossed shell get me to Devon okay tomorrow. !sad
mightyvr6 0
Hopefully it's nothing major. Probably the aux water pump but some pics should clarify that. Has any work been done on the coolant system recently? I was thinking there could be an airlock in the system - is the water bubbling in the expansion tank?
Nerih 0
to get rid of an airlock in my mk2, i used to run the car from cold until the system had fully opened (the top pipe gets hot) with the cap off of my expansion bottle + i used to squeeze the top pipe (going in to rad) a bit every now and then.remember water doesnt boil until it gets to 100 degrees and if you've got a decent anti freeze concentration, it shouldnt bubble!!!! so i'd be a bit cautious to what it actually is, it could be water rushing around inside an airlock in your heater matrix, check if you're heater blows hot air... Steveo 0
Guys thank you very much for your help. Im glad you said that because as soon as I told a work colleague this morning thats exactly what they said. They think theres a airlock in the heater matrix. How you rectify this I do not know, GARAGE!! lol
badboyV6 4
When you turn the engine off yuo will hear a trickling noise- thats the auxillary water pump doing its stuff- mine kneckered and soesnt come on at all... Need to get it sorted asap... However ti must be making a right racket to hear it when driving so id go with air lock too. the vibrating noise from the black socket- feck knows- i know what you mean though- same thing used to happen with my old indian red VR (which was a minter and never let me down) i think its probably something to do with the pump... Nerih 0
your aux pump should make a noise, no noise = bad.get your matrix sorted out by doing what i said, or cycling the coolant in the system.
shail 0
I got this when changing the coolant on mine - it was just an air lock. One thing to remember - to get the hot water running thru all your system (inc the heater matrix) be sure to have your heater temperature dial set to HOT. I got the air out by leaving the cap off the exp tank and running till fans came on, whilst 'burping' the pipes by squeezing them, including the 2 that go into the heater matrix.
