Nerih 0
tappets on the vr are noisy when cold, until the oil temp gets up, ensure its the chain (listen to the passenger side of the block...where the coil pack is, but dont electricute yourself).
clarkie 1
i would defenaltly check the tenchioner as this makde the same noise on mine and the chain jumped a few teeth and bent 5 valves and snapped 1 and the snapped 1 smashed the piston and then stuck in the head along side the spark plug. i would take the tenchioner ont pull it apart and i bet the ruber seel has little chunks out of it. Nerih 0
usually you can tell becuase the idle is a little rough, but then this can be caused by a huge number of things from a vacuum leak to a dirty fuel filter.
badboyV6 4
usually if the noise is only apparent from cold its the hydraulic tappets not charging quickly due to wear. If its all the time get the chains checked by someone- sometimes (and in my case) the top hydraulic tensioner bolt stops working and causes the top guide to become slack- meaning the chain slips over the top camshaft sprockets- the bolt is 30 quid even from a dealer...... VR6Pete 1,455
most VR's make unusual noises when cold.could be piston slap, hydrolic bolt not preassurising properly, chains, tappets.
