cgraham 0 Posted April 14, 2004 Report Share Posted April 14, 2004 Just joined up and was hoping for a little advice,I'm going to look at a VR6 tomorrow, its done 90k and I have a couple of questions1) Is there anything specific i need to be looking for on a VR6 of this milage? 2) Is 90k a lot on a VR6 or is this Ok, also what sort of milage is the VR6 engine capable of if looked after properly before things start to go wrong?Cheers guys Link to post Share on other sites
gazbrook 0 Posted April 15, 2004 Report Share Posted April 15, 2004 Hi , 90k isn't really a lot for a vr engine providing that it has had quite regular servicing and a new timing chain and tensioner(mine went at 93k ,ouch!!!),if this hasn't been changed that should give you a bit of room for negotiation cos it will cost a bit of money to replace the tensioner because of the amount of time it takes ie high labour costs, the gearbox has to be taken out to take replace the tensioner which is going to be approx 8 hours labour , obviously different garages have different hourly rates, rust shouldn't be a problem, check for the usual too ie make sure the oil is oil coloured and not a white sort of colour indicating water in the engine(i think) also definitely hpi check the car for accidents or outstanding payments,i'm sure i have missed some stuff but the guys on here will update you with anymore things you need to look out for good luck and if you do buy one welcome to the vr club!!! 8o) Link to post Share on other sites
