What is an ODB1 and ODB2 engine...does one have more power than the other?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I own a 1997 P-reg standard (non-highline) VR6. I understand from reading on here that all 1995 year onwards VR6's, both Highline trim and non-Highline trim, have an ODB2 engine lump.

But what exactly is the difference between an ODB1 and ODB2 engine lump? I understand my car will have a larger throttle body than the earlier ODB1 engines. Do ODB2 cars therefore have more bhp/torque than earlier (pre 1995) ODB1 VR6's?

supposedly the obd2 is 185 bhp due to the larger intake etc dont know how true that is? obd2 is just a revised version of the vr6 engine much like the early mk1 gti engines which went from 110 bhp to a massive 112 bhp!!! when it went from 1600 - 1800 but it became a slightly better engine due to the changes to intake and bore and stroke etc, the obd2 is probbably a slightly better engine although i dont think it makes a massive difference in driving they all make the same lurvly sound!!! 8)
